Dorothy (dott), Matilda (mattie) then Molly. The last two are very popular,

MoaningMajestyReignsAgain · 06/06/2012 09:06

I like Dorothy, with Dot/Dotty as a NN. Also like Penelope and Violet though, all of which were vetoed in this house Grin

CornishKK · 06/06/2012 10:48

I have a 5 month old Dorothy, so it's a fantastic name and demonstrates incredibly good taste. Grin

WithACherryOnTop · 06/06/2012 10:52

Love Dorothy and Matilda Smile. Not keen on Mollie.

Psammead · 06/06/2012 15:36

Adore Dorothy, also Dorothea.

Molly not so much.

Matilda is ok.

Tillyscoutsmum · 06/06/2012 15:37

Dorothy and Matilda are both lovely. I suspect Dorothy is a little bit less popular though

reastie · 06/06/2012 15:40

Like all 3 but would choose Dorothy myself - the other 2 are quite popular at the minute and IMO Dorothy is lovely and timeless

TheNightWatch · 06/06/2012 17:37

Its funny how it depends what day of the week it is. I suggested Dorothy/Dottie last month and I was quite upset by the end of it. Not one person liked it and they all laughed.

I adore it. Go for it Smile

WithACherryOnTop · 06/06/2012 18:08

I must have missed that thread,Nightwatch. I adore Dorothy.

CornishKK · 06/06/2012 18:17

Glad I missed that thread Nightwatch!

scarlettsmummy2 · 06/06/2012 18:19

I like all three! Think dorothy shortened to dottie is really sweet.

AllRiseForHerVaj · 06/06/2012 18:19

Dorothy (or Dorothea?)

Matilda and Molly both fine, but much, much more popular.

Love Matilda.

Not keen on Dorothy, just conjours up images of long grey hair and support stockings to me and don't like Dot - too diminutive or Dotty - mad. Also beware of looking out for dark hair at birth both my now very, very blonde daughters were born with very dark hair.

But prefer to Dorothy to Molly.

EmmaNicole · 06/06/2012 18:49

Dorothy!! I'm expecting DC2 and it's our number 1 on the list if we have a girl. We already have a Beatrice. Struggling with boys names though!! I only love Ralph....and DH will not have it!

PuffPants · 06/06/2012 18:51

Dora is a cute nn for Dorothy. It is a bit of an old lady name but she'd blend right in with all the Bettys, Mabels and Ethels.

Not too keen on Molly, lots of Matildas around but still a lovely name.

StepOutOfSpring · 06/06/2012 19:50

Definitely Dorothy!

Dorothy - pretty and underused
Matilda/Tilly - overused, and dislike (along with other similar names like Hilda, Clothilde, Brunnhilde etc)
Molly - too nicknamey, just about OK as nickname for Mary

jujak · 06/06/2012 19:55

Thanks everyone..showed hubby and think this has given us the confidence to go with Dorothy....I do like Nancy aswell but hubby not so keen due to the one in Oliver! And they say us women think too much!ha...Now just the middle name to sort out!....Grin
