what do you think?

DH suggested Zebedee but i think he may have been joking. i like it however.
especially due to the Magic Roundabout connotation.
what would it shorten to?

though it does mean 'gift of god' like so many many other names..

and 'Xanthe'...well 'fair-haired' - all my kids are blondies so far!

How about Zachary if you want a z name. I love Xanthe

nizlopi · 27/05/2012 13:27

Why do you hate your children?

mirry2 · 27/05/2012 13:30

He will forever hve to put up with majic roundaboutcomments g where's mrs boing?

Mrsfluff · 27/05/2012 13:33

I think both names are fab, but I particularly like Zebedee Grin

CaseyShraeger · 27/05/2012 13:35

I couldn't call a child Zebedee, because when he was older and I was trying to enforce bedtimes I would be unable to avoid cracking up every time I said "Time for bed, Zebedee".

sparkle12mar08 · 27/05/2012 13:42

How about Zebediah as opposed to Zebedee? Same basic rhythm and sound but less laughable?

fi51 · 27/05/2012 17:25

Xanthe is nice (how do you say it )
But What about zacharia in stead or Zachary

hiveofbees · 27/05/2012 17:35

I love Xanthe, but think Zebedee is maybe a bit too different for a human boys name Grin

Xanthe is pronounced Zan-thee

dionysia · 27/05/2012 20:05

we regularly get calls from a Xanthe at the call centre i work at tree ..she is spells her name every time!

DH thinks Zebedee is silly. he doesn't get a say though this time -it's Dc4.

any thoughts on Zephraim as a boy? too religious culty?

and zebedee is indeed a great name for a standard poodle....

PestoPenguin · 27/05/2012 20:12

Xanthe is fine. Really really not sure about Zebedee Confused.

Zephraim and Zebediah aren't actually much better, although a litttle less booooooiiing!

How about Zeus?!

Or a name with a "zeb" sound in the middle that you could shorten to Zeb

Blatherskite · 27/05/2012 20:16

I know a Zebedee in his early 30s. He likes his name AFAIK. It gets shortened to Zeb.

ItsallGreektome · 27/05/2012 20:17

My daughter is Ksanthi. But now she moved to uk (she is half Greek) she has started using her English middle name as people couldn't pronounce it properly.

dionysia · 27/05/2012 20:22

"How about Zeus?!"

given the propensity for the men in my family to think they are God, it would sort of be sealing the deal from the off...

works well with my other childrens names...

my daughters both have rare names but they are easier to choose for girls..

I like Zephaniah as an alternative, another Hebrew name.. could also be shortened. Haven't heard of Zephraim but Ephraim is also quite nice.

DoingItForMyself · 29/05/2012 12:34

Think all the Magic Roundabout-ers are showing their age! Our DCs won't have a clue who any of these characters were (and if grown adults are rude enough to say 'boing' whenever they meet him, that says more about them than the name!)

FWIW my DS2 has a name which was a popular kids TV character when DS1 was little. Even now just 7 years on, none of his friends remember this character and no-one has ever commented on it except my DM when I first told her and she said "oh no, not like xx from TV?!

p.s. its not Tinky Winky!

mathanxiety · 29/05/2012 16:29

Ezekiel, shortened to Zeke?

I like Zebedee and Zebediah, have to say.

Zephraim -- are you thinking of Zephyr or Ephraim? I think Zephraim sounds madey uppey.

Shutupanddrive · 29/05/2012 17:05

I know two zebedees, they are both horses though!

freerangeeggs · 29/05/2012 22:29

How about ZEBULON

... which is actually a name btw

Actually I think Zebedee is amazing and I wish I was brave enough to use it. Ezekiel is a good suggestion above. Zedediah is cool too, and shorents to Zed which is possible the world's coolest nickname.

Xanthe is gorgeous. I would be so jealous if I met someone named Xanthe.

mirry2 · 30/05/2012 20:28

Doingitmyself unfortunately you will come across adults wha are rude about a child's name. I wouldn't saddle a child with a name that could be ridiculed, no matter how much I liked it. I happened to me and it scarred my childhood and adolescence.

mirry2 · 30/05/2012 20:29

You notice that Freerange eggs says she wishes she was BRAVE ENOUGH to use it. says it all.

Bunbaker · 30/05/2012 20:35

Boing! Time for bed.

Yes, I am an old gimmer and Zebedee screams out The Magic Roundabout to me.

At work our email addresses are in first name alphabetical order, so your DC will always be last on the list.

freerangeeggs · 30/05/2012 21:29

Indeed. I am not brave enough. You have to be pretty brave to call your child Zebedee.

Tell your husband to try it out for a while. Next time he introduces himself to someone, tell him to do it as Zebedee to see how it feels and what reaction it gets...

ThatGhastlyWoman · 30/05/2012 21:31

There is Zebediah...

ThatGhastlyWoman · 30/05/2012 21:32

Oh. Beaten to it... that'll learn me.
