Not keen. I like a lot of the older style names. But not this one.

That doesn't make me like it. In any case, I have heard it pronounced both as Eth-an and Ee-than. Either way, it sounds a bit chemical to me - as does Ethel.

Why is Mabel making me think of a border collie!?

I don't know of any little Mabels but there's a chance she'd adopt Belle or Bella as a nickname - I don't know if that would bother you though...

It was the top of our list until on a dog walk we came across a couple screaming the name at dog that kept running away. DP and I just looked at each other and said "so.....more girls names?!"

There used to be a collie on Blue Peter called Mabel,Stace.That may be why.
