Esme
Esmina
Emina

A clear theme there Grin
They all sound lovely and feminine to us, plus Esme is an old family name. Our two sons have family names.

Esme! God , it's beautiful! Go with Esme!

Are you going to accent the last 'e'?

welliesandpyjamas · 19/05/2012 13:14

:)

No, no accent, just keep it as it was used in the family (Esme) if we go with it.

Esme

welliesandpyjamas · 19/05/2012 13:36

Ah, another one for Esme :)

Do the other two sound 'wrong' or too unusual or do you just prefer Esme?

Esme definitely. As long as the Twilight connection doesn't bother you! (no doubt Twilight will be long gone by the time she gets to school age anyway)

welliesandpyjamas · 19/05/2012 13:57

Ah, twilight doesn't even mean anything to me (although I'm guessing it's a vampire type of programme iirc?) so pretty safe there!

emina = enema

Go with Esme :)

sonniboo · 19/05/2012 15:08

I quite like the sound of Esmina actually, also like Yasmina, more so than Esme tbh. I also often struggle with the pronunciation of Esme (the French way or the English way?).

I don't like Emina.

Eglu · 19/05/2012 15:12

Esme, pronounced Esmee not Esmay.

Allthesanityinme · 19/05/2012 17:37

Esme
Esmina
Emina

Definitely Esme, the other two don't sound like 'proper names' imo

pixiestix · 19/05/2012 18:23

Esme

The other two sound odd and not that pleasant to me.

winkle2 · 19/05/2012 18:24

Amina is an Indian name and lovely.

welliesandpyjamas · 19/05/2012 18:37

Thanks for the extra posts :)

Emina is a Bosnian name. We lived there for a while. Pronounced Em-eena.

Esmina we thought was a nice mix of the other two names but it turns out it's a genuine name anyway! Pronounced Es-meena.

I like Amina too, winkle2, but know one already so it's further down the list.

welliesandpyjamas · 19/05/2012 18:37

Oh, and it would be Esme pronounced Esmee.

Esmes are everywhere - dull.

I like Yasmina, but not Esmina

Emine?

LineRunner · 19/05/2012 19:09

Esme

welliesandpyjamas · 19/05/2012 19:16

Emine doesn't sound feminine ebough to me. Yasmina is nice, will have to have a think about that one too.

winkle2 · 19/05/2012 20:40

I knew an Emine - I think it's Turkish.

welliesandpyjamas · 19/05/2012 21:03

How was it pronounced?

OP posts:
winkle2 · 20/05/2012 00:30

To sound like Emily

welliesandpyjamas · 20/05/2012 07:55

That's nice then. Thanks.

my niece is esme and it's pronounced es-may. have never heard esmee and wouldn't be mad on that to be honest, not half as pretty sounding. have only met one other esme (esmay) and both little girls are gorgeous little cuties so think it's a lovely name.

ripsishere · 20/05/2012 09:29

Love Esme, there isn't one at my DDs school if that's any help.
The other two sound a bit made up and I don't like Yasmina at all. HTH.

Badgerina · 20/05/2012 09:31

Esme is LOVELY. "Esmee" is a perfectly standard anglicised pn. Go for it.

I also really like Emma. It's so classic and low-key. A very beautiful name.

welliesandpyjamas · 20/05/2012 10:38

Esme is winning this thread so far! I've searched for it in past threads and sometimes it seems to get voted against due to its recent popularity!

We've never met one so that sort of helps. Plus it's very special that it is one of DH's family names. (But the other two names are also lovely...)

What would go as a middle name with Esme? Any nice ideas?
