Help with Hindu -ish boys names for DC2

newtonupontheheath · 09/05/2012 15:22

DP is hindu and I am not. Not usually a problem, however DP would like dc2 to have a Hindu name. If only we could agree on one Grin

We need a boys name for DC2 that is either Hindu in origin, or is Hindu but not so much so, if that makes sense. It's a difficult balance that we achieved with DS but at that time we only had 1 boys name we could agree on. My current preferences are Issac and Noah, but they're being completely vetoed by DP who is failing to come up with anything better!

To complicate matters, we have a lovely long surname which is a bugger to spell and pronounce Grin (but putting it on here would really out me!)

Fingers crossed we have a girl, as we have loads of pretty Hindu girls names Grin

Any ideas?!

How about Rohan or Arun?

newtonupontheheath · 09/05/2012 15:46

Thanks, I like both of those, however Arun is v similar to DS's name... Rohan has come up before actually.

It's in the maybe pile!

Hari? A nice name in both cultures.

zenoushka · 09/05/2012 16:56

Jay

Dillon

Winetimeisfinetime · 09/05/2012 17:13

Ashwin ? Is both a Hindu and an Anglo Saxon name.

BringBack1996 · 09/05/2012 17:40

Jai?

zxcv123 · 09/05/2012 19:18

Robindra - shortened to Robin
Harvinder - shortened to Harvey
Manendra - shortened to Manny
Harinder - shortened to Harry

Apparently Neil means "blue" if that's any good?

zxcv123 · 09/05/2012 19:20

Also I know an Indian boy called Alekshander (Alek for short).

ThatGhastlyWoman · 09/05/2012 19:38

I have a relative called Kailash- it gets shortened to Kail. I like Jai or Dillon, though. :)

ThatGhastlyWoman · 09/05/2012 19:38

(Kail, pronounced like 'Kyle'.)

cheeseandmushroomtoastie · 09/05/2012 19:39

Neilesh? Like jai and Dylan too

Stellan · 09/05/2012 19:42

Hari
Indra - Indy is a sweet nickname
Ravi
Neel - apparently it means 'sapphire blue', which makes it much more exotic than Neil!
Sai
Rohan
Vikram
Kiran
Vijay

newtonupontheheath · 09/05/2012 20:17

Stellan My DP's is on your list Wink

Wine Ashwin was one we agreed on then we discovered a long lost relative (with the same surname) lived across town from us with that name. We're now really friendly with them and it would mean DS would have exactly the same very unusual name Grin I don't think I could do it.

Thank you so much for the suggestions... I like Indra A LOT!

Our DS is called Archi so many of these would actually fit... I like names that "go" with each other.

Indra is lovely. I like Rishi too, gets shortened to Rish.

Agree loads of pretty female Indian/Hindi names, boys ones more tricky!

umiaisha · 09/05/2012 21:24

Rayan?

I love Indra too, I have an Indy so am a bit biased :-)

Emmiedarling · 09/05/2012 22:02

Rishi is awesome...

zxcv123 · 10/05/2012 09:31

Kamran (pronounced like Cameron)

Bubblebell1 · 10/05/2012 10:11

Hi Newton [waves]

I love Hindu names. My uncle is married to a Mauritian lady and they are Hindu.

My cousins name is krisna.
They have 3 kids and only 1 has a Hindu name the rest have English names.

I like mahad, arleem Sanjeev. There has been some lovely names suggested on this thread though, your right. It's soo easy to find pretty girl names. good luck Grin

sashh · 10/05/2012 11:51

Rickesh - shortened to Rick or Ricky for every day

newtonupontheheath · 10/05/2012 19:31

Oooo I'm loving all these names!

zxcv I like Kamran, suggested it to DP last time who told me it was Islamic...I'm going to investigate though because I like Kam as a nn.

Bubble my DP is Mauritian....I bet his mum and your Aunty know each other (it would be a pretty safe bet in my experience!!)

What about that handsome fella from crimewatch. Rav? What's his full name? He has a Mauritian parent too!
He is so so gorgeous! Blush

NannyR · 10/05/2012 20:58

I love the names Arjun, Nikhil, Sachin and Sunil.

newtonupontheheath · 10/05/2012 21:12

Ha ha Bubble yes his parents are Mauritian.... he is lovely, but my friend has met him (through work) and he is really short apparently! He made someone he was interviewing stand on the road, and he stood up on the pavement to make himself look taller! Think he's a Ravi....

You like Issac and Noah, they are very Christian or Muslim (Ishaq and Nuh). Hindu names are on a completely different vibe.
