Sholto? What do you think?

We are expecting DC3 and after being really pleased with DS1 and DS2's names we cannot think of a 'perfect' boys name. We tend to have a shortlist and then decide once baby is actually here but I can't even get that far.

As the title suggests I really like Sholto but DH is not sure, I also like Magnus, Miles, and Murdo and DH likes Gregor, Angus, and Fergus but we are both a bit meh on each others choices.

Surname is double barrelled and starts with C

Really like Sholto. There's a journalist columnist with that name. I also assumed Jewish.

FrauGrau · 01/05/2012 19:40

well, a bit unusual, but ... I'd go for Murdo or Gregor too

nosenose · 03/05/2012 00:33

we nearly did it but dp wouldn't
we too have double barrelled sur name
we went with something else equally odd and falls equally flat
we love it Grin

FrauGrau · 03/05/2012 09:36

Love Murdo! Also Lachlan and Fraser. What about Knox, Lennox, Murray or Atholl?

argghh · 04/05/2012 13:00

Fergus, Nearly called my oldest boy that and kind of wish I had

vanloadtovenice · 16/05/2012 22:02

Really like Sholto, cool name and context for you. I knew one at school, he was lovely:-) We called him Shots for short!

Springforward · 16/05/2012 22:10

Gregor is lovely IMO but then, we have a friend of that name. Sholto isn't for me, tbh.

WetAugust · 16/05/2012 22:29

Can't understand why - but I really do like the name Sholto.

brainmish · 16/05/2012 22:32

I love Sholto. I know a super talented and interesting 30 something called Sholto.

missboots · 17/05/2012 09:09

What about just Gus?

sparkle12mar08 · 17/05/2012 10:47

I love it, but then I know a gorgeous six year old Sholto, whose family are indeed Scottish! It's a beautiful strong heritage name that will suit your family brilliantly!

GoPoldark · 17/05/2012 13:23

Quite like it, but it is a bit like a pet's name! Much prefer:

Magnus (though popular now)
Murdo
Struan

Lunarlyte · 18/05/2012 11:05

Dont like Sholto, but Miles is nice.

kickingKcurlyC · 18/05/2012 20:16

I like Magnus and Gregor. Both lovely.

quirrelquarrel · 19/05/2012 10:10

LOVE it Grin

First came across it on Mumsnet, actually, and adopted it as one of my favourites.

lijanime · 12/07/2012 03:59

My other halfs name is Sholto, we met in a noisy bar and I couldn't understand what he was saying so I spent the first 3 months of our relationship calling him Sean! He likes his name but hates that most ppl have never heard of it and think it's foreign. We live in Scotland.

Ecgwynn · 12/07/2012 08:24

ARLO!
I hate this name but it might fit your specifications.
Congrats on the pregnancy :)

paradisechick · 12/07/2012 08:25

SUPER ZOMBIE THREAD ALERT.

BonBon411 · 28/11/2019 10:24

It’s awful, but so is Murdo!

Derbee · 29/11/2019 05:33

Douglas, Brody, Fraser

Thetimetravelerswife · 29/11/2019 08:20

Dislike sorry

MikeUniformMike · 29/11/2019 10:01

Not RTFT. I love Hugh and Alec, so I probably have a simikar taste.

Sholto is fine, but it wasn't one I'd heard before.

I love Guy. It's classic and not overused, no obvious shortening.
I really like Fraser but it will get Frasier (or it will here in SE England), Fray, Frase.

Magnus, Miles, and Murdo and DH likes Gregor, Angus, and Fergus. - I like Magnus, Miles and Angus.
