Help me find a boys name? I'm totally stumped

nocluenoclueatall · 21/04/2012 20:19

All the names I like have been nabbed by friends and family: Joseph, Alex, Daniel, Jude and Jacob. All taken.

If this one's a boy it'll be DS2 and after the agonies of chosing a name last time I thought I'd start thinking about it sooner rather than later.

I'm looking for something strong and classic, but not too popular (DS is Luke, which I love, but am constantly miffed shocked when we meet another one. Had no idea it was still popular for little kids.... that was the 20 somethingth most popular name when he was born, so I'd like to find something that is no more popular than that).

Thoughts? All suggestions welcome

Matthew
Joshua (possibly a bit too popular at the mo)
Isaac
Zachary
Seth
Elliot

(on a personal note, as the 'proud' owner of something of a lisp, I desperately want someone to have a Seth or Isaac on my behalf Grin)

I think Edward will be a very popular name for boys at the moment due to the Vampire Edward!

I would take a look in the Bible if I were you, you seem to like those sort of names from your OP!

What about Philip. It's not very popular at the moment. It is annoying when all the names you like have already been taken by family. That happened to me. I was daft enough to say I'd picked a name for a daughter if I ever had one and lo and behold it was nabbed. Should have kept quiet.

nocluenoclueatall · 22/04/2012 13:03

Thanks everyone! Some cracking names in here... DP's, both my brothers' and DS's middle name... Smile which means we're on to something.

Of the suggestions so far I love Victor (a good family name for us as well, DS was nearly Victor), Leo, Cyrus, Jonas, Rufus and David. Wondering if I go for Rufus whether they'd be transposed - Lucas and Roof? I quite like that actually...

I'd actually like to avoid overly Biblical names though if possible... although I really like them DP and I grew up in religous familys and aren't religious at all ourselves so don't want to give the wrong impression, if that doesn't sound too silly.

Great names though!

What do you think about Robert? Is it a bit too old fashioned? Not a fan of Rob as a NN but Bobby's quite cute for a little one isn't it?

BellaCB · 22/04/2012 13:18

We considered Robert if DD was going to be a boy. I think its a lovely name and there are a few ways to shorten it so you can pick a favourite - Bobby is sweet. I do like a name that gives the child a bit of choice when they're an adult.

Lady75 · 22/04/2012 14:20

I have a stepson called Rufus, he is 9 and the name is great as there is no one else in his class with that name so unusual without being off the wall. Next baby on the way now, the 4th for my partner and no names so far despite my countless suggestions!
