Help me find a boys name? I'm totally stumped

nocluenoclueatall · 21/04/2012 20:19

All the names I like have been nabbed by friends and family: Joseph, Alex, Daniel, Jude and Jacob. All taken.

If this one's a boy it'll be DS2 and after the agonies of chosing a name last time I thought I'd start thinking about it sooner rather than later.

I'm looking for something strong and classic, but not too popular (DS is Luke, which I love, but am constantly miffed shocked when we meet another one. Had no idea it was still popular for little kids.... that was the 20 somethingth most popular name when he was born, so I'd like to find something that is no more popular than that).

Thoughts? All suggestions welcome

if you like Victor, maybe Vincent? my DH loves Vincent and it's quite uncommon these days.

milkysmum · 22/04/2012 15:50

samuel, theodore, dexter

Geranium3 · 22/04/2012 16:17

Love Robert though i am biased as it is my lovely nephew's name! He is Robert James.

nocluenoclueatall · 22/04/2012 18:46

Ah good to know that Robert's not totally out of the fashion. Dexter and Vincent are others that have been nabbed by friends and I love love love Samuel (NN Sam: so cute) but it's the name of every other preschooler round our way so thinking no.

Still got 8 months to figure this out but thanks everyone for your great sugestions. I'm now thinking Magnus. It's a bit off the wall, but it's a proper name and a really strong one too. DH loves Brian. We're getting there!

Amos - If I had a boy, that would be my choice, its strong, short so not easily abbreviated & I've not yet come across a little one with that name :) & it would sound fine with Luke

nappyaddict · 23/04/2012 12:52

Amos is nice :)

Walter
Wallace
Godfrey

nocluenoclueatall · 23/04/2012 13:22

No one's mentioned Wesley yet. I like Wesley, shortened to Wes. Is it a bit like Lesley though? Be honest.

Love Edwin and Amos and Franklin, thanks for those

I think so :) - its my favourite Uncles name :)

but please not Eden for a boy its a name I love - but my DD is Eden & she gets very annoyed if anyone tells her its a boys nameGrin - weirdly one of her best friends is also a female Eden & she's had 2 DDs named after her - theres only 4 in our city, only one is a boy & he gets stick for having a girls name :)

heartstart · 23/04/2012 13:38

How about Jonathan

nappyaddict · 23/04/2012 14:26

Ebenezer (Eben for short)

I think Eden is a unisex name - I know boys and girls with the name.

nappyaddict · 23/04/2012 14:34

Eden is a boy's name in the Old Testament.

2 Chronicles 29:12

Then these Levites set to work: from the Kohathites, Mahath son of Amasai and Joel son of Azariah; from the Merarites, Kish son of Abdi and Azariah son of Jehallelel; from the Gershonites, Joah son of Zimmah and Eden son of Joah;

Never heard of the name Joah before, but I like that too :)

rockinhippy · 23/04/2012 14:46

I know, but it much of Africa & Israel etc its known more commonly as a girls name - I was told in Egypt its a Africa Princess name & in Cape Verde the same - met several adult Female Edens there :)

rockinhippy · 23/04/2012 14:49

IN much of Africa - damned typo gremlins - Hmm

I didn't actually know it was a name when it first popped into my head when pregnant with DD - googling it, it came up as an old hebrew girls name, meaning "delight & paradise" - seems it much more common for boys in the US though :)

Showmethemhappyfeet · 23/04/2012 15:03

Is Azariah unisex now too? Sure I seen it on here as a girls name a few weeks back.
I like more Anerican type names so won't be much help. Love Jaxon for a boy. Ezra is lovely too

nappyaddict · 23/04/2012 15:28

Asa
Skyler (Sky for short)

seeker · 23/04/2012 15:29

Patrick.

nocluenoclueatall · 24/04/2012 17:27

Ahh Patrick, my favourite boy's name! DS's middle name though. Seeker you are on to something.

LOVE Joah! What a fab name. I wanted DS to be Joe but couldn't as DH's godson is Joseph and it would look like we had no ideas of our own. Love Jonah too, but it has some unlucky connotations, so Joah? Brilliant!!!

Will google forthwith...
