oikopolis · 20/04/2012 20:26

beatofthedrum · 20/04/2012 20:27

iklboo · 20/04/2012 20:42

Know one, pronounced Marry Ann

MamaLazarou · 20/04/2012 20:45

Yes, she gets called Mary Anne.

Itwasonastarrymole · 20/04/2012 21:33

Know one- pronounced as in the Leonard Cohen song- Marry Anne

Chesticles · 20/04/2012 22:27

Know one (35ish), prounced MarryAnne. I think it's a lovely name.

misslinnet · 20/04/2012 23:31

Know one, pronounced Marry Anne. But she gets called Maz for short.

VivaLeBeaver · 20/04/2012 23:32

Marry anne

chocolatecoffinplease · 21/04/2012 00:56

I know one pronounced Marry-Ann. She often gets called Marion, which irks her. But friends call her Maz. I love the name Marianne. Was on my list for dd. But thought two in one family was a bit weird.

SodoffBaldrick · 21/04/2012 03:46

Don't know any, but love the name. On my list for any further DDs.

Thumbwitch · 21/04/2012 04:01

Know an elderly one, always called Marianne, to my knowledge.

belindarose · 21/04/2012 08:15

I wanted one. Am having a boy.

seeker · 21/04/2012 08:20

My niece in Marianne and I don't think she's ever called anything else, except "oh,MariAAAAAAANE!!!!!!!!!!!" in exasperated tones by her big sister (she is a serious wind-up merchant!)

Springforward · 21/04/2012 09:13

I know one who goes by Maz, because her dad (dad, for heaven's sake!) kept calling her Marion. Everyone else seemed to get it right though - marry-ann.

eryan · 21/04/2012 19:35

Thank you. I think it is a very pretty name, and works in both English and French which is one of our criteria. Just worried about it being pronounced incorrectly.

My niece is Marianne - never heard her being called anything else! Except a few friends call her Macs.

5madthings · 21/04/2012 19:48

dont know of one but my dd is Merryn and people on seeing her name written down sometimes say miriam, or marion or marianne!!! {rolls eyes}

i think marianne is a lovely name, and most people would pronounce it correctly, one would hope!

PandaNot · 21/04/2012 19:52

Marry-ann

mirry2 · 21/04/2012 19:57

Marryanna is lovely as well

galletti · 21/04/2012 20:00

The one I know is always called Marianne.

scummymummy · 21/04/2012 20:11

My daughter is named Marianne and it is almost always pronounced correctly. She has been called Mary-Anne once or twice but the culprits were very nice and eventually cottoned onto their mistake without us pointing it out directly and were v apologetic. They now call her Marianne without fail. Lots of Eastern Europeans seem to like to call her Marianna, for some reason- maybe that's a more common version of the name in their homelands? No one calls her Marion so far. I suspect she will be Maz to mates as a teenager, probably. My boys and their friends seem to get their names truncated to the shortest versions possible! Anyway, I really, really love the name and recommend it.:)

EllenParsons · 21/04/2012 21:25

I went to school with one and everyone pronounced it correctly, never seemed to cause any problem.

missingmymarbles · 22/04/2012 09:57

DD's friend's little sister (4 year old) is Marianne, and always gets Marianne. I don't think it is ever wrongly pronounced. And, she is the cutest little thing Grin

GrossePopel · 22/04/2012 10:00

The Marianne I know is frequently called Marion by strangers but she corrects them politely and they get it right the next time.
