Not sure if Evangeline is too much...

Any thoughts? We are having a difficult time deciding on names. I'm not so sure about the nicknames. DH and I don't even have a preference for nn (Eva or Evie). That's not so good, is it, if we don't even have a preference!? The name does hold some family significance though my mother hates it. But it's the only name DH and I can kinda agree on (he prefers Katherine though).

i love Evangeline, although not keen on the nicknames, I think i'd use the full version.
but it's a great name

smokeandglitter · 20/04/2012 09:58

I adore Evangeline. :) So much prettier than Evelyn to me.

ggirl · 20/04/2012 10:02

I think it's a lovely name

FootprintsInTheSnow · 20/04/2012 10:05

Nn Jelly!

FootprintsInTheSnow · 20/04/2012 10:06

I think it's a pretty and versatile name btw. Not too much - unless you stare daggers at anyone who tries to shorten it!

MagsAloof · 20/04/2012 10:07

I know a little Evangelina who is Gigi. Nice name.

twolittlemonkeys · 20/04/2012 10:09

I like it, even though it could be considered a bit try-hard by some, but might be concerned about how many little Evies there are around currently. I quite like Lina as a nn, a bit different.

Spice17 · 20/04/2012 11:58

I like it too and was one of my possibles but I come from Bristol and can imagine myself (and others) saying 'Evan-ger-leene'!

Spice17 · 20/04/2012 11:59

Also, don't like Angela (sorry!) and sounds a bit like that

YouOldSlag · 20/04/2012 12:00

I love it and seriously considered it before I had 2 DSs!

Evie or Lina when good and Evangeline when naughty! it's beautiful.

QuickLookBusy · 20/04/2012 12:02

Not too much at all, it's beautiful.

MarySA · 20/04/2012 12:19

Sorry but I think it's dreadful. But it just goes to show that each individual person should go with their own preference. As a lot of folk seem to love it!

picnicbasketcase · 20/04/2012 12:25

I think it's a lovely name. I mentioned it when expecting DD but a family member said that it looked too much like the word 'vagina' when written down Confused I still think it's gorgeous though

ThePathanKhansWitch · 20/04/2012 12:27

It's a beautiful name.

kerala · 20/04/2012 18:10

She will end up being another Eve. DONT DO IT! One third of the girls in DD's class are named a variant of Eve that name is officially full.

MoonHare · 20/04/2012 18:10

you've had lots of positive responses, which should encourage you if you secretly have your heart set on it. To add another perspective though, I'm sorry but I don't like it, too flouncy for me and I actually prefer Evelyn.
Good luck with your choices x

Thanks very much! DH has now told me he likes the nn Ellie for Evangeline. I like Gigi! Perhaps that can be a mum-only nn?! Wouldn't want that to be what everyone else calls her. I agree the Eve names are getting to be way too popular. I can see why though as they are lovely. And nice to know there are some people who like the name without a nn as I'm not a nn person but since others will call her by a nn I at least want to pick it out!

I adore this name! It was on my list for DD2 but DH wasnt having it!

Go for it!

sashh · 21/04/2012 05:49

Love it - I was a big fan of the House of Eliot

AThingInYourLife · 21/04/2012 06:00

Not Ellie as a nn, for the love of god!

If you're going to use a name like Evangeline, you need to call the child that, and not some overused nickname like Evie or Ellie (or underused and strippery like Gigi).

EssentialFattyAcid · 21/04/2012 06:02

Love love love this name - go for it!

Alligatorpie · 21/04/2012 08:06

I like it, but I would call her Evan as a nn.

EdithWeston · 21/04/2012 08:17

It's a lovely and extremely Christian name.

anychocswilldo · 21/04/2012 09:13

It's a beautiful name,i know an Evangeline nn Angel. Lovely

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/04/2012 09:23

Well I wouldn't let the fact that your Mum hates it put you off a name as my Mum was very rude about DDs name, we love it though and that's the important thing.

A friend's DD is named Evangeline. It is a beautiful name although she has shortened it to Evie which I'm not so keen on. For a few years it seemed that every girl born in our town was Evie with a few Evas and Ava for good luck. That may not be an issue for you but it may be for your DD.
