That's quite a long list Smile

My favourite is Anna, by a mile. I also quite like Cora, Sylvie, Josephine and Eleanor.

Have you considered Julia, Lydia, Sadie, Tamara?

toobreathless · 20/04/2012 00:25

Right: will just pick out the ones I have strong feelings about.

Sylvie: too trendy' much prefer Sylvia & nn Sylvie.
Isabelle: too popular for me, much prefer Gabrielle/Gabriella.
Juliane: looks a bit made up. Much prefer Juliet/Juliette.
Eva: too popular.
Justine & Danielle: not keen, dare I say it 'chavvy'

LOVE: timeless, elegant & classic.
Anna
Elisabeth (though I would probably spell it Elizabeth)
Eleanor
Susannah.
Adele

Love: quirky & Individual.
Elise
Cora
Estelle
Calista (nn Callie)
Camille
Eloise

Dislike:
Valentina: just not for me.
Serena & Mirabelle: too frilly, prefer Seren & Miriam.
Alice: just makes me think 'A Lice'
Tabitha: is a cat.
Stephanie: think it sounds ugly. Also dislike nn 'stef'
Jacqueline: not my thing.
Madeleine: fine, but dislike ' Mads' or 'Maddie'

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 20/04/2012 00:26

Sylvie - I understand that lots of people like this name but I just don't get the appeal.
Elise - A bit of a non-entity, in my opinion.
Corinne (KO-rinn) - Fine.
Isabelle - Too popular for my own tastes but I can see why so many people like it.
Juliane - Indifferent.
Valerie - Not ready for a come back.
Serena - Pretty. Will remind young'uns of Justin Bieber's girlfriend.
Rose - Pretty.
Adele - Inextricably bound up with the singer in my mind.
Mirabelle - Bit too frilly.
Jacqueline - Could be ready for a comeback.
Tabitha - Like it for someone else's child but not for me.
Elisabeth - Like this spelling but would only use it if it were the common spelling where I lived.
Camille - Don't like the 'mille' ending; much prefer Camilla.
Madeleine - Can't disassociate it from the unfortunate Madeleine McCann. That said, it's a nice name. Too many ways of pronouncing it for it to be one I used.
Sophie - Fine. Know quite a lot of Sophies so it doesn't wow me but it's a lovely, sensible choice.
Juliette - Like it a lot.
Gemma - Fine. Gem is a cute nickname. I also like Emma.
Alice - Like it a lot.
Eva - Like it.
Valentina - Not very wearable but sounds pretty.
Estelle - Another singer. Prefer Stella or maybe Estella but the latter might be a bit Great Expectations-y.
Calista - Flockhart. Not one for me. Reminds me of Calypso ice-lollies.
Justine - David Milliband's wife.
Eloise - Nice. But prefer Louisa or Elodie.
Anna - Like it a lot.
Stephanie - Fine.
Eleanor - Fine.
Gabrielle - Prefer Gabriel for a boy but this is pretty.
Josephine - Like it.
Danielle - Bit 80s?
Cora - Fine.
Annabel - Too frilly.
Susannah - Love it.

thesis · 20/04/2012 09:54

Love Tabitha, Elisabeth (and Elise which could be a nn), Madeleine (my favourite!), Eleanor, and Eva. Of the others, they are also beautiful. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

StarryEyedYoghurt · 20/04/2012 09:59

Valentina is my hands down favourite from that list. I may be slightly biased though Wink

Valerie - reminds me of the song, I'm afraid. Not keen.
Serena - love it
Rose - favourite
Adele - people will/may think you named her after the singer
Mirabelle - a little bit flouncy
Jacqueline - bit old-fashioned
Tabitha - sorry, always a cat association
Elisabeth - think she'd probably be spelling it every time 's not a z'
Camille - that's nice
Madeleine - lovely
Sophie - one of my favourites
Juliette - think I prefer as Juliet
Gemma - lovely
Alice - lovely
Eva - lovely
Valentina - not keen

Eleanor
Alice
Elizabeth
Anna

on my list. My new favourite is Alice and I am seriously considering this for my dc due in May.

I also like Isabella - but this is very popular in the UK

Like
Alice
Elizabeth
Eleanor
Susannah
Anna
Sophie

All were on our girls list. And DD has 2 of them!

MoonHare · 20/04/2012 15:54

It's a very long list indeed but think my opinions are quite different from many of those you've had so far so have had a quick run through it for you.

LOVE
Tabitha - yes it has feline connotations, that's part of why it's a great name
Camille
Isabelle - prefer Isobel but as others have said it is vv popular at moment
Alice
Eleanor

OK
Elise
Corinne (KO-rinn) but with this spelling I'd read it as Cor - een
Juliane
Serena
Rose
Elisabeth
Juliette
Calista
Anna
Cora

Don't Like
Sylvie
Valerie
Adele
Mirabelle
Jacqueline
Madeleine
Sophie
Gemma
Eva
Valentina
Estelle
Justine
Eloise
Stephanie
Gabrielle
Josephine
Danielle
Annabel
Susannah

I guess I just don't like 'flouncy' names and not keen on 'ee' sounds at the end either.

minipie · 20/04/2012 16:04

Nice list!

My favourites are Sylvie, Elise, Serena, Elisabeth, Madeleine, Estelle, Calista, Eloise, Eleanor, Gabrielle.

And Corinne, but I'd pronounce it Co-reen not Co-rinn.

I don't dislike any of these although find Justine, Jacqueline and Valerie a bit middle aged. Isabelle, Eva and Sophie are v popular here but that may not be an issue where you are.

You might also like (not that you need more options! Grin) Delphine, Selina, Marianne...

mathanxiety · 20/04/2012 17:42

I love:
Valentina
Calista
Josephine
Alice
Serena
Madeleine
Mirabelle (but spelled Mirabel)

Like a lot:
Jacqueline
Juliette (spelled Juliet)
Eva
Estelle
Anna
Annabel
Susanna
*Camilla (slightly prefer to Camille)
*Sylvia (slightly prefer to Sylvie)

Like:
Tabitha
Elisabeth
Justine
Gabrielle
Gemma
*Adela (slightly prefer to Adele)

Names that have a significant drawback imo:
Juliane - 70s
Valerie - 70s
Rose - old ladyish and not in a good way
Corinne - pronunciation - expect to hear a lot of Ko-RIN and Ko-REEN
Sophie - too popular; Sophia is also very popular
Stephanie - 70s
Danielle - 80s
Cora - middle aged Irish Home Econ teachers

El- names that will become Ellie (so I would avoid unless you love Ellie):
Elise
Eloise
Eleanor

(I have come across one Coren that was pronounced KO-rin.)

winkle2 · 20/04/2012 22:03

Elise is my fave from your list

HatchedAtTheHutch · 20/04/2012 22:04

Tabitha is my fave

tummytickler · 21/04/2012 10:21

I love Valerie, Susannah, Camilla, Juliet, Josephine - all on my list, beautiful.
Valentina is also lovely.
Alice, Rose, Gabrielle, Cora, Estelle are fine (Love Coral though)
Sophie, Sylvie, Madeleine, Eleanor, Isabelle, Anna - I find boring (although I really love Anne/Annie)
Really dislike - Jaqueline, Serena, Eva, Eloise, Stephanie, Danielle, Annabel, Justine

MrsHuxtable · 21/04/2012 11:06

Like (very much):
Susannah
Josephine
Alice
Elisabeth
Anna

Jaqueline
Gemma
