Thoughts on the name Lois??

Pinklady08 · 15/04/2012 19:29

Hi,

I have 5 weeks to go & hubby & i have finally decided on a name we both like. As we are keeping the name a secret from family members until she is born, i dont have anyone i can put the name to for thoughts.
So would just like a general idea of what people think of the name Lois, and also maybe possible middle names? we are struggling as we have a 3 syllable surname beginning with M.

I love Lois. We were considering it for dd2 but then had a niece born called Lois. She's Lois Rhiannon, if that helps, and was almost Lois Thea.

Westcountrylovescheese · 15/04/2012 19:45

Love it!

gafhyb · 15/04/2012 19:47

I really like it. Feminine yet strong

There are quite a few L girls' names I like

Lana
Leah
Lyra

littleshinyone · 15/04/2012 19:49

i really like it. we're in north wales where it would be pronouced to rhyme with 'voice', not be 'low-iss' though.

gafhyb · 15/04/2012 19:49

Sorry, middle names ideas... well, I think the middle name is a good opportunity to honour or remember someone: a friend, mentor, relative, hero.

trikken · 15/04/2012 19:50

Love it. Our surname didnt go with it otherwise id've seriously considered it.

Butwhatdoyoudoallday · 15/04/2012 19:51

My granny was Lois Jessima and had a 3 syllable surname beginning with M! I love the name, it's beautiful and classic.

Love it. I know an almost one year old named Lois and it is the most scrumptious name on her. And it's a great name for an adult, which is so important imo.

Sarcalogos · 15/04/2012 19:54

Ha coco reminds me of family guy!

However, in RL it is a lovely name.

akaemmafrost · 15/04/2012 19:56

I love it.

MamaLazarou · 15/04/2012 19:59

Love it. I'm sad I will never be able to use it if I have a daughter, as my son has a Superman-themed name!

Glittertwins · 15/04/2012 20:00

I like it. I have know one from school, so late 30s, a teenager and a 4 yr old. Suits them all :)

crazynanna · 15/04/2012 20:03

I have a Lois Smile but we call her Lolly.

Just to warn you...hardly anyone knows how to pronounce it though. She gets called Louis,Louise just about anything but Lois.

invicta · 15/04/2012 20:05

Love it!

Middle names - Clare, Jane, May, Joy, Elizabeth, Kimberley,

CalamityJones · 15/04/2012 20:07

Love it. Beautiful name. Top of our list should we have another (assuming she's a girl)

MamaGeekChic · 15/04/2012 20:09

I love it, it was on my shortlist for DD1 but we went with Orla. Will seriously consider it if we have another... Middle name was Cate :)

birdofthenorth · 15/04/2012 20:25

Love Lois. I think J middle names would flow well. Lois Jane, Lois Jude, Lois Jasmine etc.

Pinklady08 · 15/04/2012 20:33

Thanks peeps. Generally it seems a liked name then?
Crazynanna, i am concerned about the closeness to the boys name Louis, I'm sure it's frustrating!! but I've had similar with my name since I was little, no one knowing how to pronounce it or spell it, & wonder if I want her to have the same problems?! But we both love the name. Confused

Oh don't let it put you off! When I mention Superman to them..they get it right!

Just jesting!

Seriously...I love the name...and school have never got it wrong...the GP receptionist seems to be the repeat offender.

Isaidhangonamin · 15/04/2012 20:45

Love the name Lois.

Is their a family/friend connection you can give for a middle name? For instance my sister gave her son our father's name as a middle name (damn good name but don't want you out anyone) and her daughter has my sister's FIL's name as a middle name but the feminine version, along the lines of Rae instead of Ray Smile

Isaidhangonamin · 15/04/2012 20:45

*is there Blush

The only family name we can really think of is Elizabeth from hubby's side, but our surname would make it a really long name, as it's a name in itself 3 sylables & ending in 'dith'. Just don't want it to be too long winded.

My kids have two middle names each. They rarely say their entire name though Grin - go with what you really love or has meaning. For instance friends recently gave their daughter the middle name May because that's the month they got married.
