I once knew a sheepdog called Rex. Sorry, but I think of it as either a dog's name or an upper class character in Midsomer Murders.

I think of Rex Walford, great man- he helped me with my dissertation. Do it :)

There used to be a comic series about Rex the Wonder Dog. (Wiki says it was a 1950s series, but I'm sure I can remember it and I wasn't born till the 1960s.) I think that's why it became known as a dog's name. When I hear the name Rex I think "the Wonder Dog!" but anyone under 40 won't think that.

Anyway, Rex the Wonder Dog saved the world from being taken over by evil Martians, so that's pretty cool.
