I really like it but what's the mumsnet verdict?

Oh, Rex is awesome. Makes me thing of Rex Harrison and other suave English gents.

Never met a dog called Rex. Most dogs round here have what I would describe as children's names, eg Luka, Milo, Harvey etc.

mum47 · 13/04/2012 17:44

I immediately thought of it as a dog's name - my friend had a black lab called Rex when we were growing up. But I looked at Locket's photo of her Rex, and I am coming round to it now. Thought good point by Stellan!

Stellan · 13/04/2012 17:52

Glad you've had positive reactions to it. It does sound very cool but it's not one for me, partly because to my ears it also sounds like 'wrecks'. If you're a cool dude, Rex would be a great name to have.

Oh I looooooovvvve Rex. I'd like to use it as a nn for Frederick Alexander. (Long story) But our last name is Brick and Wrecks Brick is a bit much. Sigh.

CharltonHairstyle · 13/04/2012 19:12

I LOVE that name!

mintymellons · 13/04/2012 19:16

Love Rex. Had it on my list if DD2 had been a boy.

Think it's quirky and cool without being ridiculous. Go for it.

Bitofastate · 13/04/2012 19:18

sounds like a dog, sorry Sad

NoraHelmer · 13/04/2012 19:18

We used to have a hamster called Rex :o. But that does mean I like the name, though :o.

I love Rex! My twins have 'x' names and Rex was on the shortlist but my husband used the 'dog' argument as his veto. If you can't have Rex what about Max or Dexter or Lex? (as in Alex)

fanjodisfunction · 14/04/2012 10:03

My brother is called Alex, so no to that one. I dont like Max and Dexter is nice but I dont think its for me.

I really love Rex, I may discuss it with DH when he gets in from work. Last time we discussed Fox, which we both loved but we then moved to a road with Fox in the title.

We also like Lachlan due to Scottish roots but Rex in my mind is really pipping it to the post.

FOX! Yes why not. Grin

Montsti · 14/04/2012 10:10

Sorry really not keen. Reminds me of a porn star!

fanjodisfunction · 14/04/2012 10:10

I will do what I want flightly as it is my child, nothing wrong with Fox.

my husbands name means king also, meanings of names are nice but do not detract me from picking them or liking them, my daughters name means Help, but we get so many compliments on how beautiful it is.

My sons name means 'Red King'. I guess I should make sure to tell him not to get any ideas above his station Hmm

tunaday · 14/04/2012 11:26

I love it. It suits all ages I think and is manly, strong, easy to spell. I wouldn't be influenced by dog names on the basis that these days dogs are given 'people' names so on that basis you'd not call a child Sam, Poppy, Lucy, Millie, Mollie, Charlie, Alfie, Archie etc, on the basis that if you hear these names being called in the park, you're just as likely to see a labrador responding, as you are a child.

Flightty · 14/04/2012 12:22

Sorry I was so rude.

I was trying to be funny, it didn't work, it often doesn't.

Ignore me. There is nothing wrong with your names. I'm still half asleep.

MrsBovary · 14/04/2012 19:07

To me it is a cat's name, I've owned plenty of Rex cats over the years. It also reminds me of the American man in Brideshead (I think he was a Rex).

It's not my style but it's not a bad name.

MrsBovary · 14/04/2012 19:10

Actually, he might have been Canadian...

BikeRunSki · 14/04/2012 19:12

Good name. My grandad's name and he was a jolly fine chap.

glittershoes · 14/04/2012 19:17

I LOVE it! But selfishly don't want you to use it as it is probably the name we will use for DS1 due in August! Grin
