Sooo, does anyone have a suggestion as to which of the 1000s of existing nicknames (or even a made up one) I can use for her which will satisfy my longing for a bit more of a boho-feeling name?

That's a shame for you. Elizabeth is the anti-boho name.

Maybe to satisfy both you and your husband you should look at floral/nature names. Juniper, Iris, Violet etc.

I'm loving minipie's suggestion of Queenie - not so 'boho' I suppose, marking a Diamond Jubilee baby (Is your DD a 2012 vintage?) but, and I am biased, Queenie becomes 'Q' which is very cool and super quirky.

As I've muttered elsewhere, my grandmother was known as Queenie as she was apparently a rather assertive little girl. Her given name was the rather lovely but 'cool' in a different way, Frances. Queenie became 'Q' which my own Dd wishes we'd given her as a supercool but 'with family connections' middle name instead of, you quessed it, Elizabeth.

And so, to sum up, my offering is 'Q' because, being an 'assertive little girl' in the early years of the C21st is seen as something to celebrate rather than my granny's experience at the beginning of the C20th.

Over the years I've taught Elizabeths who were known as Lilly, Beth and Eliza.

Also Liza - as in Liza Minelli and Lissa as in 'Me-lissa'

Bea is about the one I love the most. I already changed her name a couple of weeks after she was born, so if I introduce a nn that's so uncommon, ppl will think I'm changing it again..... maybe I'll just phase it in slowly.

Not sure abt Queenie - although it may suit her in time. Just not very ethereal sounding, which is what I love in a name.

you mentioned in your thread title the name damson how about plum or peach as a pet name or insteadof mercy use merry as a diminutive pet form

I think Libby is probably the nicest of the NNs. Like someone else said, does your DD have a middle name that could be used?

If it's any consolation, I do think Elizabeth is the prettiest name amongst the ones you considered. It's a beautiful classic.
