DD is 5 and half Italian. She would like a name that is popular in the UK. Can anyone think of a name that is Italianesque and also nice in English? I will put all suggestions to her and see which she prefers.

We live in the UK by the way.

TIA.

Does she have a middle name? Or could you use Claire for a bit? I have a very unusual name and used my middle name for a few months when I was in primary school. I soon got bored of it though!

SarahJessicaFarter · 03/04/2012 22:32

Does she have a middle name?
Also how do you pronounce her name? Could it be Kira?

LoopyLoopsIsTentativelyBack · 03/04/2012 22:33

I also LOVE Chiara.

lordsugarslovechild · 03/04/2012 22:33

Ooh. Dunno. I'll ask her tomorrow when she's up.

My DD did this too, I told her we would use her middle name instead. She decided to keep her name after that suggestion. Grin

Sofia would work. She wants pencils and shit with her name on.

Ah, I also wanted pencils and shit! Easy nowadays, whatever your name.

HandMadeTail · 03/04/2012 22:38

My Dsis decided to use her middle name when she was about 8 or 9, but she couldn't get used to answering to it, so quickly changed back. Maybe this will be just as temporary?

LoopyLoopsIsTentativelyBack · 03/04/2012 22:38

Maybe get her some really lovely Chiara personalised stuff and she'll want to keep it?

lordsugarslovechild · 03/04/2012 22:39

She has a nice pen with Chiara on it and a key fob.

I never could get personalised stuff as a kid, but as an adult I've discovered Studio, who will stick any name on anything Grin

LoopyLoopsIsTentativelyBack · 03/04/2012 22:42

the whole hog?!!!

Surf25 · 03/04/2012 22:43

hmm yes i also wondered how you pronounce chiara and if she/you could change that for a while..chances are she will go back to her name later if she's 5.5 yrs! I hated my name as not cool/modern etc etc when i was in primary school and never found any personlised things but now am happy enough with it! or if she was adamant you could give her a new mn to add to her name and she could use that for a bit? (she says...contemplating what I would do if dd's told me this in the future!)

lordsugarslovechild · 03/04/2012 22:43

Actually its likely because she's all into Rainbow Fairies at the moment and there's no Chiara the blah fairy. There is one with her middle name tho.

At a similar age my neice declared she was called Poppy. She told everyone her name was Poppy. Obviously, it wasn't. Allegra? Cosima? I love Chiara, its a gorgeous name, but I suspect she wants to be Molly or Evie or Chloe...

pengymum · 03/04/2012 22:45

My DD2 wanted to change her name so I said to choose one and if she stuck with it for a year, I would officially change it. She hasn't found one she likes enough to remember it for longer than 2 days! Grin

lordsugarslovechild · 03/04/2012 22:48

She should think herself lucky as she was nearly a Cosima. And you are right MamaChoo she wants to be Evie or Molly or [insert popular name of her friend this week].

yellowflowers · 03/04/2012 22:48

I think you should keep it as her name (she's only 5 and she may come to love it) but let her choose her nickname.

Also maybe she has problems spelling or pronouning it and that is why.

Can you prime some friends to 'spontaneously' tell her how pretty it is next time they see her?

How about calling her my her initials for a bit - that sounds super cool!

threeleftfeet · 03/04/2012 22:49

Ooh I'd fight for such a beautiful name!

I mean it's lovely you listen to your DD and respect your her feelings, but if there's any chance that some personalised shit would encourage her to keep her name I'd have to give it a go!

How about these?

Beautiful personalised stuff. Not cheap but lovely

Cutesy stuff

standard pens n stuff

doctordwt · 03/04/2012 23:05

I like the sound of Chiara the Blah Fairy.

The one who doesn't give a shit! - like, BLAH.

Keira is popular in the Uk if that is what she wants. Same pronunciation.

Heyyyho · 03/04/2012 23:20

Chiara is such a lovely name.
