Two babies needing names!

Last week our three beautiful babies made a surprise entrance into this world and they could not be more gorgeous! As they thought we're now the very proud parents to two little boys and a girl. With our DD we just knew her name when we saw her and decided on Martha Hope Genevieve. With our boys though we're a bit stuck and it's horrible them not having names. DH likes Barney and Wilfred but I'm not sold. DSs need names so please throw anything at me!

For a name that has for centuries been another word for penis, I find it remarkably effete and ineffectual. I just think Percy in Blackadder and the Scarlet Pimpernel's camp fop facade.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/03/2012 20:09

Percy is horrible. Love Wesley and Asher.

gentlydownthestream · 25/03/2012 20:49

It's a shame that the consensus seems to be pretty anti Percy as I think it's great! Others we've been thinking of are Gilbert, Douglas (Dougie v. cute) and Rufus but none of them have really jumped out. This is such an important decision and I hate the idea that if we get it wrong we are burdoning (sp?) them for life.

I had a great uncle Percy. Love it, really do. It was on our list actually but we ended up with a wee girl. The boys names we had were:

Gene
Percy
Douglas
Geoffrey

Don't know if that helps your Percy thing. I know there's a penis connection but loads of names are a bit dodgy. John is a bloody toilet for heavens sake but no-one says anything, and John Thomas is a condom. Richard has the Dick thing... Teddy is a negligee.... William is Willy... Peter is also a penis... But how many Williams, Johns, Richards and Peters are there out there, living normal lives with minimal piss-taking?

And Percy as a penis is a pretty old fashioned slang. Will it actually be relevant to your DS?

winkle2 · 25/03/2012 22:47

Percy is horrible - sorry. It's so wimpy.

Congratulations on your triplets.

poppydaisy · 25/03/2012 22:54

Martha, Barney and Quentin

yellowflowers · 25/03/2012 23:01

Wilfred nn Wilf is brilliant.

What about Tobias? Or Lucas.

yellowflowers · 25/03/2012 23:01

Ps Martha and Rufus just makes me think of the Wainwrights

UmmOfUmbridge · 26/03/2012 00:19

Congratulations! I have five but all came seperately :)

I also dislike Percy sorry.

Martha, George and Thomas
Martha, James and Elliott

Good luck!

calzone · 26/03/2012 11:20

CannotBelieveThisWasNotSortedWhenYouWerePregnant Wink

ceeveebee · 26/03/2012 12:03

I just reread my post, don't go for Arthur (Arthur and Martha!!)

gentlydownthestream · 26/03/2012 18:35

calzone I can't believe it either! We had vaguely decided on George and Wilfred before they arrived but they seem to be lacking in something. However I have really come round to the idea of Barnaby, I just can't seem to get past Percy. Eric and Albert are also strong conternders, as is Gilbert. Neither of them seem to be any name though.

I really really do like Martha, Percy and Gilbert but I'm yet to convince anybody other than myself :(

In the meantime MIL has taken to calling them Jack and Robert, I really hope they don't stick!

picnicbasketcase · 26/03/2012 20:01

Please, not Percy and Gilbert, they are just so penisy. Use one if you really love it, but I truly wouldn't use both.

welovesausagedogs · 26/03/2012 20:09

Martha, Alfred and Archer
Martha, Eric and Percy
Martha, Beckett and Herbert
Martha, Albert and Arthur

Other names:
Edmund
Francis
Rupert
Ralph
Frederick
Theodore
Leo

Tried to think of some more unusual classic names - i will come back if i think of any more, do you like any of these???

gentlydownthestream · 26/03/2012 20:19

LOVE Rupert, had completely forgotten about that one. Alfred is also fab but there has been a sudden influx of little Alfies recently.

I think it's a good time to give up on using a name when someone says it is too penisy :o
