Giselle. i want it as a middle name if it's a girl as it's my grandmothers name. we have a family tradition that middle names be great grandmothers names if baby is a girl. the other option is patricia which i'm not keen on (sorry gran). but my boyfriend says that giselle sounds like a prostitute. or should i be more worried that he knows what names are likely in ladies of the night? [hmmm]

I went to school with a Giselle who was into ballet and horses - so when I hear the name now I always think of a slightly horsey but very elegant and poised girl - hope that helps!

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 14/03/2012 20:34

Patricia the Stripper? Grin

Giselle doesn't strike me as a prostitute's name. Candyhotchik4u does.

rocket74 · 14/03/2012 20:34

no!! its lovely as a middle name especially with the tradition of it being your grandmothers name.

Also the name of a supermodel!

bronze · 14/03/2012 20:37

Makes me think of the Chalet School books
It's nice

LucyManga · 14/03/2012 20:38

No, its lovely

DilysPrice · 14/03/2012 20:40

No, it's fine.

TheRedQueen · 14/03/2012 20:40

I like it very much. It makes me think of the ballet and the model Gisel(l?)e Bündchen.

lesley33 · 14/03/2012 20:42

Giselle makes me think of an elegant ballet dancer - and I think of it as a slightly posh name. Not a stripper name at all.

sweetasanut · 14/03/2012 20:51

It's a lovely name! I've come to the conclusion blokes really don't have a clue anyways.

NoWave · 14/03/2012 20:53

Lovely name - lovely sound.

joanofarchitrave · 14/03/2012 20:56

Is he thinking of another word starting with the same syllable and ending 'm'?

Suggest he reads a bit more widely, perhaps.

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 14/03/2012 20:59

It makes me think of the ballet teacher in the 'Lettice' books, but that may be because I've read it 720,000 times (thanks DD). I def wouldn't have thought sex worker from the name Giselle.

leftwingharpie · 14/03/2012 21:04

I'd think of the fashion model too. Not a "prostitute name" at all, if there is such a thing.

MadameChinLegs · 14/03/2012 21:06

Not prostitutey, but i'd be worried about the shortening of it to 'Gis' Hmm

TheMerchantOfVenom · 14/03/2012 21:07

What sort of circles does your DH move in, to think Gisele/Giselle of all names, is a prostitutes name? Hmm

Elegant, timeless name.

CuttedUpPear · 14/03/2012 21:09

Lovely

mopsyflopsy · 14/03/2012 21:54

Reminds me of a middle aged German woman - Gisela is very popular amongst 50+ aged women. I don't really like it or Giselle, but no, it doesn't remind me of a prostitute.

CecilyP · 14/03/2012 22:31

Where on earth did he get that idea from? I only thought of the ballet and that the name is French. Does he have some sort of association French/prostitute?

Charleymouse · 14/03/2012 22:48

I was a bit "hmm it could be" so asked DH he said yes it is.

He thinks Giselle, Chantelle or any glamorous sounding names could be a prostitute. He explained it further by saying have you ever heard of a prostitute called Brenda.

TBF I don't personally know (I think) any prostitutes but can see his point of view.

TheMerchantOfVenom · 14/03/2012 22:57

But Gisele and Chantelle are leagues apart.

I mean, Giselle the ballet...?

WetAugust · 14/03/2012 22:59

Classy.

Charleymouse · 14/03/2012 23:12

I know TMOV but he is a bloke and has no clue about naming children and really no idea about prostitute names, although neither do I.

MrsBeakman · 14/03/2012 23:13

I think Gisele is a lovely name.

AKissIsNotAContract · 14/03/2012 23:23

A search for Giselle on adultwork brings up 9 women so your DP may have a point.

WetAugust · 14/03/2012 23:34

.... compared to how many hits for ?
