What could Annie be short for?

DH and I have always loved the name Annie for a girl. But I don't like the idea of using a shortened name as the actual name on the birth certificate. Any ideas for what a long version of Annie could be? We don't like Annabel I'm afraid...

Marianne.

I always thought it was a name in it's own right?

I know a little girl called Annie, it's not short for anything.

Ooh some really good ideas thank you! Really like Marianne but DH not into it.

I love Rosanna and Arianna - Arianna especially seems to be sense as a long name for Annie.

X post Mrsmonkfish - Grin at Annaconda!

Do you think Antonia could really be Annie? Wouldn't it always be Toni?

I knew a v. posh Antonia who went by the nickname Annie. She did pretentiously unusually spell it Antoniah though.

FoxyRoxy · 05/03/2012 23:38

Annalisa, Annalise, Anne-Marie?

I like it on its own though.

Minty82 · 06/03/2012 10:37

Long for Anne?

kickingking · 06/03/2012 10:39

Annabel, Annalise, Andrea, Annemarie, Marianne, could also be a nn for Anna?

MadMonkeys · 06/03/2012 11:25

I've been thinking about this too - I think Annie is lovely, but like you I'd prefer a long name with Annie as a shortening. I love Marianne and Anastasia. Dh vetoed Anastasia last time so I'm lobbying for Marianne this time!

I don't if it has to be short for anything... bizarrely it was my grandmother's full name and she was known as Nancy all her life!

My baby is due in the nxt few days and we are calling her Annie. However, she will be registered as Anna, this is in case when she is older she wants a more serious name, or she has red curly hair and then Annie would just be cruel!

hairypotter · 06/03/2012 19:21

I was at school with an Annaleah. Lovely name.
