Expecting DD 2 in 6 Weeks and have the following names on our shortlist.

What do you think of them?

Eleanor
Edith
Evelyn
Layla
Lyra
Lilith

we seem to really like names starting with e or l lol.

Surname is Burns and we like Mae or Rose as middle names but this may change depending on what goes best with first name.

Love most of them, but not Layla or Lilith.

Eleanor is classic but she's likely to get called Ellie, fine if you like it.

I don't think Lyra Rose sounds good, too many "r"s.

My fav would be Eleanor Rose Smile

SleepingWithGhosts · 05/03/2012 00:00

Your right about lyra rose but I really like lyra mae, it is one of my faves with Eleanor rose. Don't like Ellie but like Nora as a NN.

Need to narrow down to 2 or 3 choices really but finding it hard to decide which ones get cut.

Lola and Rosie are my cats along with mia and nala :)

Clearly thinking along my lines though!

Love Eleanor but i have a problem with Ellie (sorry) i do not know what - maybe that i knew atleast 12 under 2 in 5 different areas [hmmm] But Ella would be a lovely nn for Eleanor

I love both Rose and Mae as middle names - my daughters middle name is Mae, although we had Rose as a middle too!

I love Edith - but OH doesn't!

What about

Elsa Mae

Erica Rose

Eliza Mae

Erin Rose

Lola Rose

Lucinda Mae

Lauren Rose

SleepingWithGhosts · 05/03/2012 00:17

Love Elsa Mae, will put it to OH in morning, although trying to shorten the list not add to it lol.

I agree with you about Ellie, there is hundreds in my area. Do you think an Eleanor would definitely get NN Ellie if we used Nora instead?

anychocswilldo · 05/03/2012 00:21

I live Evelyn, Edith and Lillian and I think Rose would b beautiful with those names.

HoldTouchEngage · 05/03/2012 00:26

NO!!!! Use Nora - that is lovely!!!! If you use Nora - others will - just be prepared for friends to call her Ellie once growing up!

My step dd (now 18) is Annabel - but she calls herself Anna and so do her friends (but family have always called her Bel and I call her Bella! - personally no keen on Anna)

DD is Georgia - and we like both George and Georgie

DS is Gabriel and again Gabe / Gabey are both fine.

I have to like the nn of the 'proper name' for instance i love Sebastian and love Seb, however i Love Benjamin cannot stand Ben - but that is me!

Apologies - but i really like Elsa - sorry to add to your list lol!

BelleStar · 05/03/2012 00:41

I love Layla, although prefer the spelling Leila. I also like Eleanor with either Nora or Nellie as a nn. I think if the nn is used as the name from the beginning it's very likely to stick long term. Elsa, Ella and Eliza are also very lovely names. All the best!

CointreauVersial · 05/03/2012 00:43

Lyra or Evelyn

MadameMessy · 05/03/2012 00:46

Love nora, so pretty.
I love that ora sound at the end though, for dd1,my list was
Laura
maura
cora
nora
flora

But not dora...

Anyway I think nora rose is lovely :)

fridakahlo · 05/03/2012 00:51

Is no-one else finding Rose combined with Burns slightly odd feeling?
-- Rose Burns?

MadameMessy · 05/03/2012 00:55

Fridakahlo why do you find it weird? Am I missing something? Is it because of Robert burns and his red red rose?

Ps I love kahlo, was at a lovely exhibition last year of hers. What a terrible life she had :(

fridakahlo · 05/03/2012 01:02

Was it the exhibition at Colchester? Rose Burns, it's just making me think of some kind of strange affliction or something, sorry Blush

MadameMessy · 05/03/2012 01:08

No it was in Dublin, a collection with rivera, was in the museum of modern art for a while, but I also caught the same exhibition by chance in new York in November :)

fridakahlo · 05/03/2012 01:18

It must have been touring, as I saw the exhibition at Pallent House Gallery in Colchester (kahlo and riviera).
Did they also have the photos done by her father?

StealthNinja · 05/03/2012 03:58

I like Eleanor and Evelyn. Elsa too.

Throwing Eloise into the mix as I didn't get to use it :).

SleepingWithGhosts · 05/03/2012 07:27

Never heard of the rose Burns connection, it will be a middle name not a first anyway if we use it so not really said much.

My sister is Louise so Elouise too similar and OH has vetoed Elsa :(

Think our top 3 are

Eleanor rose
Lyra mae
Evelyn rose/mae

Which sounds best with the surname Burns and which flows better with Megan (DD 1 name) ?

OP posts:
Littlecherublegs · 05/03/2012 10:44

I think Eleanor Rose is lovely and goes well with your surname and DD1 name.

Not as keen on Lyra or Evelyn.

Elizadoesdolittle · 05/03/2012 12:00

Eleanor Rose is beautiful.

I also love the name Megan, you have great taste op.

marshmallowpies · 05/03/2012 17:15

Like them all except Lilith and Layla. I love Lyra but not sure it goes too well with Burns...Eleanor does sound best with it, I think.

Have mentioned it on other threads but another L name I love is Lamorna. My DH would never go for it but would be so happy if I inspired someone out there to pick Lamorna!

chummymummy7 · 05/03/2012 17:43

another vote for eleanor rose. i also love evelyn rose - they are both a bit more unique than lyra.

roadlesstravelled · 05/03/2012 18:44

I like Eleanor Rose too. Very classy and versatile for child and grown up.

JoannaLumpy · 05/03/2012 21:18

I think Nora Rose has the same problem as Lyra Rose - too many "r"s.

StealthNinja · 05/03/2012 21:29

Eleanor Rose is beautiful. I also love Eleanor Kate if you're worried about the r sounds (it doesn't seem too r-ish to me though).
