Girl twins, too much choice, help!

We're getting close to D Day now. Plan is to have 4 potential names so we can work out what suits which girl when they're born - obviously ignoring the fact they'll both look like baked beans anyway :)

Surname is one syllable, beginning with a 'w'.

Don't want names with the same ending ie 'a' or 'ie/y' or ones which will be shared with 10m other girls at school. Should be pretty, but works OK when she's running for Parliament. The pair of them can't be too 'twinnie' if you know what I mean.

Have foolishly been democratic and got family to vote, so DS has rejected Sally (my favourite) because it 'sounds like a bar wench' - not sure how many bar wenches he's encountered Confused - and DP has said no to Liberty because it's pretentious. Some family resistance to Freya as she was my childhood dog but think I could force it through ;)

So help me filter the final 10 down to 4 please PLUS middle name ideas - one of which needs to be Beatrice (my Granny), others could be combos from this list.

Romilly
Isla
Flora
Polly
Charlotte
Freya
Felicity
Sophia
Nancy
Iona

First of all, great list! A few suggestions:

check Iona doesn't sound odd with your surname (I own a ..)
maybe Freya would be better as a middle name
Sophia, Sophie etc do seem to be quite popular at the moment

Flora Beatrice
Charlotte Freya

harrygracejessica · 29/02/2012 13:50

Sophia Beatrice and polly Isla :-)

I didn't want matchy matchy with my twins either.

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 29/02/2012 13:56

My fave 4 are; Isla, Flora, Felicity, Nancy (like Sophia and Freya as well though)

As a pair I'd do go Flora and Nancy or Isla and Felicity

jaffacakehips · 29/02/2012 14:04

Charlotte and Iona!

Beatrice would be lovely with either. Can't think of a middle name for Iona...

I just LOVE the name Iona, sadly we can't use it Sad Our next DD if we have one would be Beatrice Iona.

I also like Nancy.

outinthesticksmummy · 29/02/2012 14:10

Edie Grace and Ava Rose here

KNow lots of Freyas .. like Polly and Nancy.

What ever you call them....even if its not remotely twinnie people will still get their names mixed up !!! .....my 2 are as far from being identicle as is possible and half they time their playschool teachers get them muddled ?!?!? or they get called Evie and Ada grrr

good luck choosing from a bar wench ;-)

MarshmallowFarm · 29/02/2012 14:11

Sophia Beatrice and Felicity Charlotte would be my top picks! Also like Flora, Polly and Iona. Agree that maybe Freya could be a middle name due to family dog connection?

Italiangreyhound · 29/02/2012 14:27

I prefer:
Isla
Freya
Felicity
Iona

stinkingbishop · 29/02/2012 14:31

outinthesticks I take it you're a bar wench then yourself? Do you know my DS?!

Flora and Nancy. I can imagine them popping off to the Chalet School together.

stinkingbishop · 29/02/2012 15:47

A bit too lashings of pop then??

fairimum · 29/02/2012 16:08

Iona (as we have one - so obviously love it!)
Isla (as wanted one but rhymes with our surname)
Freya (as top of our list for number 3!)
Romilly or Sophia (as these have both been on our lists!)

Congratulations and look forward to hearing what you choose!! Do you have any other family names to use as middle names? Beatrice is lovely (was an on/off on our lists for first names!) :)

FilterCoffee · 29/02/2012 16:30

Charlotte Felicity
Sophia Beatrice

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 29/02/2012 16:38

Romilly Beatrice and Polly Charlotte.

Flora also good!

Sally's lovely, shame about the veto. I really dislike Freya - and it's pretty popular too, so maybe for the best!

Isla and Sophia I think fail your too popular test.

Nancy is good, but others are better.

Don't like Iona or Felicity. Too twee.

ShaysLou · 29/02/2012 16:39

My twins were going to be
Zara & Zoe
Florence & Francesca
Sophia & Isadora
Iris & Violet
But i never had twin girls...

TheCrunchUnderfoot · 29/02/2012 16:39

See I think Sophia Beatrice really doesn't work, you have a 'fee-a' then a 'bee-a' sound right after one another.

Romilly and Polly!

MackerelOfFact · 29/02/2012 16:58

I quite like Flora and Sophia from that list, but not sure that the middle name Beatrice goes well with either. I agree that Freya would be a good middle name too, but again, doesn't go with those two.

EllenParsons · 29/02/2012 17:44

Isla Beatrice and Charlotte Freya or Charlotte Flora

stinkingbishop · 29/02/2012 19:00

Dang there's no consensus! Best revert to original plan of Ginny and Tonika ;)

FilterCoffee · 29/02/2012 19:21

That's interesting... I would pronounce it Soph-EYE-a.

"See I think Sophia Beatrice really doesn't work, you have a 'fee-a' then a 'bee-a' sound right after one another."

oooggs · 29/02/2012 19:28

Our twin girls were going to be Erin and Grace but one was a boy Blush

From your list I like Polly and Isla good luck, twins are great!

stinkingbishop · 29/02/2012 19:33

oooggs god, how did they miss that?? you've got me panicked now! Not that boys aren't lovely but a) the nursery is a festival of butterflies and bunnies and b) am surrounded by them already!!!

OP posts:
oooggs · 29/02/2012 19:49

Don't worry they didn't miss anything. We were just convinced it was 2 girls and didn't have any boys names!!

Erin Leigh and Grace Lily ended up as Erin Grace we have lots ofnall combinations at our twins club

WillowKnicks · 29/02/2012 20:28

As a mum of twin girls, I remember well the difficulty on choosing names for 2 babies that you love equally.

I love Sophia & Romilly.

SayBoo · 29/02/2012 21:13

Love Romilly, Polly, Nancy, Felicity.

Not keen on Iona. Always sounds like 'I own her' to my ears'

There are already many, many girls called Sophie/Sophia, and lots of Charlotte, Freya and Isla round my way, too.

Otillie
Emmeline
Livia
Ariana
Juliet
Thea

GossipMonger · 29/02/2012 21:18

Romilly - my top girly name so would deffo choose this with Beatrice. Twin One Romilly Beatrice.

Isla - reminds me of the Generation Game with Isla St Clair so a BIG NO!

Flora - margarine

Polly - Not with Romilly

Charlotte - a good solid name and Lottie is pretty as a nn

Freya - Freya Charlotte sounds great

Felicity - could you take Flick as a nn?

Sophia -popular

Nancy - Not my choice

Iona - I own a .........?

So my vote is Romilly Beatrice and Freya Charlotte.

And I will give you Annabel as an alternative.
