Annoyed by Aquaintance's dog's name?

Not so much because its weird in and of itself, mainly because it "uses up" a good name. But also because it displays a terrible lack of imagination.

Just saying.

(Cats etc don't matter so much imo, cos they don't get "called")

You can't say that and not say what it is.

PercyFilth · 24/02/2012 15:27

It'll be Max or Rex, I bet. Unless it's a girly?

Avantia · 24/02/2012 15:41

Surely you didn't want to name your child Buddy or Bouncer . Grin

You must tell us the name !

Ecgwynn · 24/02/2012 20:46

Cats do matter!

FilterCoffee · 24/02/2012 22:07

I reckon it's Rufus.

OtherQtr · 27/02/2012 15:36

I feel a bit guilty 'cos we used Kaspar for our cat, and now I like Casper for our DC3.

Round us are dogs called Lilly, Martha & Ben - all good names and it got me thinking, and I realise that it annoys me - perhaps I should have put this on AIBU?

Am I?

You could always call the kids Rover and Spot if the dogs are called Oliver and James. Grin

thegreylady · 27/02/2012 22:46

My friend's dogs are Trevor and Kev!

PigletUnrepentant · 27/02/2012 22:51

I know a Bruce, a Xavier, an Ursula, 3 Camillas, a Jessica, and my dog would have been called Alister, if my boss had not had that same name.

I still regret it, Alister suits him better.

OtherQtr · 08/03/2012 14:05

What's wrong with Lily, Martha etc is that it rules out the names for my DC, it shows a lack of imagination, and its too humanising.

I appreciate that I'm out on a limb here - however consider this... I heard (direct) yesterday from a woman who's parents named their dog the same as she had just named her child.

This is the result of ignoring my warnings! Wink

On the radio today, they said that the most popular dogs names are Alfie, Molly, Max and Sam...... not so different from the names that keep coming up in the baby names topic.

ripsishere · 08/03/2012 14:20

My DD is called the same name as one of my old cats. Not Debra or Fanny, the other girl one.

Iamweasel · 08/03/2012 14:29

I stupidly used up my favourite girls name on the dog.

BlueAndRedMakePurple · 08/03/2012 14:40

An aquiantance's dog has my DC3's name-spelt the same and everything. But I had it first so I dont care!

chandellina · 08/03/2012 17:51

My brother's family called their dog the same name as DS (when he was 2) and my DD shares her name with the pets of two friends so I'm not too bothered!

Bollocks does it. I have no time for the notion that names can only be used once in a particular circle, whether for humans or animals.

As for the rest, both of our dogs have "human" names which are perfectly suited to their appearance and character.

TinkerMaloo · 09/03/2012 13:16

My cats with human names have been william, misty (ok so probably only a name in america?), cleo, jack, bob, and eric.

My friend named her son max which was the name of her dog as a kid.

The dogs round my way (that I know the names of) are called annabell, milly, tilly and ruby. There are two kids in the street called milly and ruby too...

A name is a name! Chill out lol

My cats are Jemima, Harriet and Toby and I remember a while back a poster on Baby Names asking what should she call her son when he was born as his sisters were Jemima and Harriet Grin

Don't think she appreciated my suggestion Wink

ajandjjmum · 09/03/2012 13:23

DS is Max - he's recently been sharing a house where a dog named Max has been a regular visitor. Made for some amusing moments! Certainly can't get wound up about it.

swampster · 09/03/2012 13:24

I once met a dog called Mark.
