Not so much because its weird in and of itself, mainly because it "uses up" a good name. But also because it displays a terrible lack of imagination.

Just saying.

(Cats etc don't matter so much imo, cos they don't get "called")

Just because someone has named their dog or cat a name you like for DC doesn't mean you can't name your DC that.

Our DD was going to be Leo if she was a boy and my nan's dog is called Leo, as is DH's aunt's cat. Didn't put me off the name although I must admit that a few family members went a bit mad about the thought of naming a baby the same as a pet!!

I am struggling to think of any dogs or cats in my neighbourhood who DON'T have human names. Traditional pet names seem to have fallen out of favour. No Snowy, Dinky, Blackie, Rover, Bonzo, Fido, Topsy etc.

Years ago we had a mouse cat called Gerald after the Pink Floyd song.

I know a mouse
And he hasn't got a house
I don't know why
I call him Gerald
He's getting rather old
But he's a good mouse

:o
