I think i've settled on the name Lola for our baby girl due in 11 weeks.
The only prob is we already have a baby girl who is 9 months and we named her Lily, so im wondering if it is such a good idea to have such similar names and the same initials?
I just really dont like any other names...and believe me i've gone through every single girls name listed on google :)
What do you think??x

it really is up to you, I love Lily but I am not keen on Lola, Imagine her going for a job interview 'my name is Lola....' Lily and Lola are too similar and dont really go together, just my opinion.

Fairyloo · 23/02/2012 17:53

I love them both and think they sound lovely together

Love lola

KateShmate · 23/02/2012 18:08

I love the name Lola!
We wanted it for DD2, but DD1 is an Isla and we thought it was a bit too similar.
FWIW, I don't really 'get' the whole job interview thing..?
It's the same as me going to a job interview and saying 'my name is Kate'..
Lily and Lola sound gorgeous together :)

gaunyerseljeannie · 23/02/2012 18:10

Lovely and for the name tags you can just have L. Suchandsuch printed and they'll do for both Grin

welovesausagedogs · 23/02/2012 18:15

Yeah i think it's fine to have the same initial, the names are different enough, in my opinion Lily is more girly and Lola is slightly more funky.

Stellan · 23/02/2012 18:58

Too similar. Keep looking!

manicinsomniac · 23/02/2012 19:33

I think they sound cute together - Lily and Lola - yes, I like it.
Your girls will be so close in age! - I bet they'll always be great friends.

FilterCoffee · 23/02/2012 20:52

Too similar IMHO.

I have a Lily and a DN who is Lola, I feel it is too close. They are only 2 letters different.

Firawla · 23/02/2012 21:06

I think they sound nice together. Yes they are close but they do have a different sound/ending so i think its fine. I like both the names. Congrats :)

PestoPenguin · 23/02/2012 21:12

I know a family with a Lily and Lola. I've always thought it was a naff combination, sorry. They sound too similar, and it's a mouthful to say together.

What about when they're teenagers and get their own post, but it all comes addressed to Miss L Bloggs? How will they feel then opening each other's mailt?

mrsrvc · 23/02/2012 21:31

With Lola I always think of the kinks song..

LittleTyga · 23/02/2012 21:34

I love both names and think they are good together.

KateShmate · 23/02/2012 21:41

Have to say, I think the whole 'same initials being a nightmare' thing is a bit silly. You can't decide your childs name because of their initials and worrying that, for a few years, they will get letters addressed to the same name.
Surely its a simple process of always remembering to put their middle names in things so that the letter will be directed to L.S.Sum04 or L.J.Sum04 (Eg). I know a lot of people with the same initials as their siblings and its never been a problem.
Don't let it put you off OP! Grin

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 23/02/2012 21:52

I think they're too similar. Lily and Lola is sooo cutsey it's making me nauseous.

Could you have Lola as a nickname for a longer name maybe? Maybe Elizabeth, Eleanor, Louisa, Talulah? There are loads of names it could be a nn for

CharlieBoo · 23/02/2012 22:05

This forum makes me laugh at times.... Sooo cutesy it's making me nauseus! Have u heard yourself!

BackforGood · 23/02/2012 22:18

Is she going to be a showgirl ?
Ignoring the fact I'd never inflict the name of Lola on anyone, I think it's a bad idea to use the same initials for siblings.

NotAnotherNewNappy · 23/02/2012 23:20

My dad and my sister had the same initials, she was mortified when he opened her mini tampax samples by mistake. Point being, you may always remember to include their middle name initials but others will not.

To me lily and lola looks like a missed opportunity or like you just haven't tried hard enough to think of a second name. How about another flower?

Poppy
Daisy
Rosie
Jasmine
Iris
Erm.....?

EllenParsons · 23/02/2012 23:40

Lily and Lola are a bit too close in my opinion, and it reminds me of the makeup brand LilyLolo, but both lovely names. Not sure why people think Lola is unprofessional or show girl name Hmm It is pretty normal these days, don't think anyone would bat an eyelid

Some ideas

Zara
Mia
Mila
Annie
Cara
Poppy
Penny
Ivy
Freya

They're practically the same name. There are loads and loads of girls out there with these types of names - they are faddy and will date, date, date.

You really can't come up with anything else? I don't believe you - sorry - there are zillions of nicer equally as good names out there.

Agree with Holy - way too cutesy as a combination. In fact, together they practically make my eyes glaze over.

Sorry. :-/ But you did ask.

CaoNiMa · 24/02/2012 06:15

CharlieBoo, in that case, you might prefer NetMums. They tend to use shorter words...

Showmethemhappyfeet · 24/02/2012 06:36

I know 2 little sisters about 18 months apart called Lily and Lola. They are matchy but not the same! Sod other people's opinions. Plenty of people pulled a face when we first mentioned our baby name but now no one can imagine her being anything different! Grin

CharlieBoo · 24/02/2012 07:26

Maybe they have better manners over there...?

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 24/02/2012 08:02

Maybe.

Oh and FYI... it's 'you' not 'u'.
