Lily and Lola?

sum04 · 23/02/2012 17:33

I think i've settled on the name Lola for our baby girl due in 11 weeks.
The only prob is we already have a baby girl who is 9 months and we named her Lily, so im wondering if it is such a good idea to have such similar names and the same initials?
I just really dont like any other names...and believe me i've gone through every single girls name listed on google :)
What do you think??x

My DD is Lily.. I love both the names.. Go for it.. If you love them its your decision Grin I'm calling DD2 something that mumsnet said was a massive massive no no but hey... Beautiful names and like someone else said.. You can buy one set of name tags hahaGrin

BackforGood · 24/02/2012 11:04

Don't get this "You can buy one set of name tags" often said on here. Point is, when you are sorting 9 identical looking school sweatshirts on a Sunday night, it's MUCH EASIER to have them labelled differently, so you know who to return them too - what a nightmare if all my dcs nametags were the same!

kerala · 24/02/2012 11:37

Am afraid I agree with slinking. Lola is an awful name IMO and you can't use it with Lily. Well you can but it sounds mad. Am sure you would think my DDs names are dreadful though we obviously have very different tastes Grin

what about charlotte - nn lottie = lilly & lottie? Does sound a bit like a kids cartoon tho.

OnlyWantsOne · 24/02/2012 20:03

Ffs I love the MN name police Hmm

Both names are lovely. And different. If YOU like them then go for it.

AThingInYourLife · 24/02/2012 20:12

I think Lily and Lola are both nice names, but not for sisters.

Especially not for sisters so close in age - people will be always mixing them up.

EirikurNoromaour · 24/02/2012 20:26

I don't like the two so close in age and so similar. I think it's naff. People will think they are twins anyway being so close in age, they should have different names. Really, Lily and Lola far too similar.

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 24/02/2012 20:29

onlywantsone

This is the baby names section. Where people post to ask 'what about this name?' or 'do you like this?'. This is what this section is for.

If you read the OP you will notice that she has asked 'what do you think?'. People are telling her what they think. Where is the problem?

coffeeinbed · 24/02/2012 20:33

All right separately.
Together a bit like a Thirties Berlin brothel.

DialMforMummy · 24/02/2012 20:39

Too similar IMO. I would not.

ScaredyCate · 24/02/2012 20:44

I like them, I think they go ok. If you like them then go for it.

OnlyWantsOne · 24/02/2012 20:46

Where is the problem?

the critical bitchy sense of self entitlement....

EirikurNoromaour · 24/02/2012 21:02

critical bitchy sense of self entitlement....

Wow PMT much?

HolyNoSheDittantBatman · 24/02/2012 21:13

Grin @ self entitlement. How is not liking the name Lola or the combination of Lily and Lola self entitled?!

"Thirties Berlin brothel." arf

BackforGood · 24/02/2012 23:00

spat my drink over the keyboard now, reading "30s Berlin Brothel" Grin

Er .... *Onlywantsone"...... how does replying to a question posed by an OP, lead to .."A sense of entitlement" ? Confused.
If you are sure about the name, then you would give your child the name.

If you want people to pat you on the hand and say 'That's nice dear', then you ask family and friends in RL.

If you want to hear what people really think of a name, then you ask about it here, where people will say honestly what they really think.

It may not be what you want to hear, and you may still choose to give your child that name, but you know what you are letting them in for. It's about making an informed decision.
There'd be no point in asking here if everyone was going to say "That's nice", would there ?

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 25/02/2012 19:14

"the critical bitchy sense of self entitlement...."

Oh my days, I've read it all now. Grin Grin Grin

Ephiny · 25/02/2012 19:29

I think they're too similar for sisters. But then I'm not keen on the name Lola anyway.

dontellimpike · 25/02/2012 19:31

"the critical bitchy sense of self entitlement...."

I think that I must have missed something on this thread .....

:)

I think the names are fine together OP - Lola reminds me of the old Kinks song but I am sure that it won't have the same associations for younger people.

SayBoo · 25/02/2012 19:44

Both nice names. Who cares if other people think they're unimaginative? sod 'em.

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 25/02/2012 23:29

Well, the OP clearly cares, hence why she's started a thread in Baby Names to ask this very question... Confused

A few people obviously having a great deal of difficulty getting their heads around the concept of discussion forums; specifically forums created for the very purpose of discussing baby names.... Grin

sparkle12mar08 · 26/02/2012 09:53

What do I think?

I think Lily is just about bearable by itself but wil date so badly, and Lola is cheap and nasty frankly. Together they are dire and yes, I would have preconceptions about the parents. Shoot me.
