After DH went stone cold on my favourite name Hugo, Oscar has now come back into the limelight. Your thoughts, good and bad would be welcomed.

I love it.

It's quite popular here though, don't know if that bothers you.

Much, much nicer than Hugo imo.

startail · 16/02/2012 01:19

Oscar, much nicer than Hugo.
Being brought up in Wales Hugo just sounds a really pretentious version of Hugh.

jaffacakehips · 16/02/2012 10:00

I like Oscar and I like Hugo Smile

Sorry not much help!

Kveta · 16/02/2012 10:07

I like both - have cousins called Oscar and Hugo too!

spottyock · 16/02/2012 10:10

I have an Oscar. I'm pregnant again and if it's a boy I don't think we'd find a name we love as much.
Is quite popular but still a great name.

qwerty123 · 16/02/2012 20:26

Yes - we know of an Oscar in reception year in the local school, another that comes to toddler group from a different village - then I have a cousin that has a 3 yr old Oscar - but we still think it's a great name and are struggling with alternatives.

Love Oscar. I know a cute one but I'd imagine all Oscars are lovely anyway. Great name.

pictish · 16/02/2012 20:36

We have an Oscar. He is an absolute star!

Nospringflower · 16/02/2012 20:40

Like Oscar Smile

sillymillyb · 16/02/2012 20:47

I love Oscar - it's my top name at the mo (35 weeks!)

PestoPenguin · 16/02/2012 21:11

Love Hugo and like Oscar too Grin

Itsallacademicanyway · 16/02/2012 21:52

I really like Oscar, and I don't know of any.

notcitrus · 16/02/2012 22:23

There;s 3 Oscars in ds's nursery - and only 45 kids, half girls!
I couldn't use it after growing up on Oscar the Grouch but that's probably not an issue now.

DingbatsFur · 16/02/2012 23:17

We have an Oscar. Unusual enough and a lot of family were unsure but he is a star!

OneLieIn · 16/02/2012 23:41

Hate it. It's a dog.

Maybe little boys will start looking up and running too Wink

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 18/02/2012 08:18

Love Oscar. Ignore the dog comments.

spiderlight · 18/02/2012 18:50

Love it. I only know one - he's lovely and it really suits him.

hypoxia · 19/02/2012 23:16

Oscar is a lovely name but quite common now. I know four baby oscars.

ZenNudist · 19/02/2012 23:36

Oscar is a very common name now. I hated it the first time I heard it used was a bit Hmm , but think it's quite nice now it has associations with the lovely oscars I know. Don't love Hugo but it's a taste thing isn't it? Go with what you feel right with. Come to think of it I don't know any Hugos, young or old...
