What do you think ladies?

Might be wrong but I'm sure I read somewhere that Janet along with Jane are still two of the most popular middle names around. As is James for a boy. I guess for a lot of people they are family names of a generation or so ago.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a nn for Janet?

I like Janet with the nn Nettie or Ettie.

I'm a Janet (andThough I was born in e fifties, I have no doilies, armchair covers, Royal Albert or pot pourri anywhere near me, thank you)

Growing up I was called Jinny, Jinty, Janey but never Nettie or Ettie. When I was about 17 I decided that if I was going to have a nn I would choose it myself, and I have been Jan ever since - in fact most of the people I work with don't know I'm Janet, they tend to assume Jan is short for Janine or Janice.

My sister is a Janet (outing self hugely). Don't know what she thinks of it now she's 40something, but she hated it with a vengeance all the way through her childhood and teenage years. Rocky Horror has a lot to answer for - I used to work with a Bradley who refused to have his name shortened to Brad because of that song...

I know a Janet in her early 20s, nickname Net. It's unusual for that generation though, though to be fair it isn't actually her birth name, it's the English name she chose when she moved here (she has a Chinese name as well).

It suits her though, and if you can get over the 'old-fashioned' connotations, it's actually quite a pretty name.

Have relative named Janet. Has been strictly known as Jan for years.
Don't do it, as others have said, you're too early, it's not due a comeback yet!

You'll be about 10 yrs ahead of the new trend. All the 1950's names will be back in vogue soon enough.

I like them a lot more than the 1920's /1930's now which are popular now.

My great grandparents were ahead of their time then - my grandma was a Janet Rose born in 1919! I think to todays ears it just sounds a bit clunky and not soft enough. I wouldn't choose it myself I fully admit, but it's a perfectly good name.

I am 52, and my best friend in infant school was a Janet. She moved to Swindon when we were 9.

I think most Janets would be in their 50s, 60s, 70s, so probably a bit early for it to be trendy again, but actually I think that counts as a positive. Lovely name.

I kind of like it but wouldn't actually use it. Goes with Nancy, Susan, Gillian etc IMO...

I like Janet much more than Florence, Elsie, Esme, iris, Dora, etc etc.
It's not something I personally would choose, but I was never a fan of old lady names and am now totally over them. Please let the old lady name ship sail. Janet is just fine

I am called Janet - I didn't like it when I was growing up. I am very used to it now and think it is quite nice. I have an Auntie Janet too and I think it suits her (she is lovely and not a doily type, born in the 40s).

Most people call me Janet. Nettie is a nick name occasionally used by a few people. About three people over my lifetime have decided to call me Jan which has been fine too.

Agree that it is not currently very trendy and I don't meet many others so it hasn't been for a good 30 years but perhaps that is a good thing in some ways. There won't be three Janet's in the class

I don't think it's an absolutely vile name or anything, but it is boring.

The nicest, prettiest most genuine girl in my year at school was Janet.
It's still dull and because it was still being used in the 60's early 70's still, like Sarah, Susan, Rachel, Jayne, Helen and Ann, likely to be a Mum name.
