Another possible girls name-what do you think?

Hi Girls
As you prob guessed from other threads I'm really trying to get my moms name(Mary)included in my girls name. How does this name work
Lola-Mary? Is it a bit of a mouth full? Full name would be Lola-Mary Catherine. Or would Lola-Mary be enough?

Can't you just call her Mary? Cute name.

ReneeVivien · 05/02/2012 23:49

Or a name that's derivative of Mary: Marina is lovely.

PopcornBiscuit · 05/02/2012 23:50

Lola-Mary is a bit of a mouthful, yes.

How about Marianne (Annie as nickname?) or Mariella (Ella/Ellie as nickname)?

YummyMummybee · 05/02/2012 23:52

I do love Mary but we are in Ireland & it is still a very popular name over here in the top 100. So far we have Polly, Molly, India Mary(would prefer something though that would be more obviously Mary). Now Lola-Mary did a search & also got Lolamarie which is quite cute. Love Lola as does dh so could Lola-Mary be used like Daisy Mai Molly Mai etc?

I haven't seen other threads, but is there a reason you can't call her 'Mary' ?
Really don't like the Lola-Mary suggestion.

Renee-I posted re marina already but got too many replies re the marina coil!
Mariella is lovely popcorn dh here isnt too convinced but could get around him will add it to my list here!!

ReneeVivien · 05/02/2012 23:55

It could be, yes. But it sounds a bit clunky (four equal syllables) and my bet is your dd will drop the Mary sooner or later.

I still like my suggestions better Grin

The Mirena coil? Are they serious? If you met a Marina would you think of a contraceptive device?

If you really want Mary, call her Mary! Mary Lola is very nice.

YummyMummybee · 05/02/2012 23:57

Thanks a million girls-keep the suggestions coming!

Sounds a bit naff, sorry.

poppy283 · 06/02/2012 17:20

Mauvene (might need to check spelling...) Is the Welsh version of Mary, I think it's pretty?

mamasin · 06/02/2012 17:23

Maura or Máire or Marie ( pronounced Mar rie), Maureen (little Mary). What about Mary Kate? My dd also has Mary in her full name but I'm not sharing Grin

DorisIsWaiting · 06/02/2012 17:39

My friend is Mary-Anne which I think is lovely, not convince on Lola-mary tbh

YummyMummybee · 06/02/2012 19:39

PopcornBiscuit-I have not been able to stop thinking about Mariella:) What other nicknames can you all suggest for Mariella beside the obvious Ellie/Ella.

jkklpu · 06/02/2012 19:43

Marylou?

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 06/02/2012 19:49

I'm not that keen on Mariella, but I prefer it to Lola-Mary, that's just too 'glued together'.

NN for Mariella - Mari (sounding like Marry) or even Mary. Mai?

AnaisB · 06/02/2012 19:56

Not keen on Lola-Mary, but I like Marina, Marisa & Marianne.

Doozie · 06/02/2012 21:01

Lola-Mary - noooooo, too contrived and a bit of a mouthful. Sorry!

Less is more.

Mary Lola Catherine

Lola Mary Catherine

Mary - classy and classic. Look here for other variations.

If you must combine it with another name I would go for something a little more traditional.... Mary-Kate, Mary-Jane, Marianne, Marie-Claire, Marie-Louise etc..

deste · 06/02/2012 22:24

What about Lola May.

WineOhWhy · 06/02/2012 22:30

I know of a little mariella who gets milly as a nn.

I think you should go for meriel. The first syllable actually sounds more like the first syllable of Mary (at least in my accent) even though it looks less similar than mariella.

manicinsomniac · 07/02/2012 11:15

Lola-Mary doesn't flow

Lola-Marie is okay. Mary-Lou?? (I know, too Malory Towers!)

Lola-May?

I think Mary requires a 3+ syllable first name in order to flow properly:
Lydia-Mary?
Louisa-Mary?

Arwhen · 07/02/2012 12:00

Not keen on Lola-Mary, or hyphenated names in general! Would it not be enough to have Mary as a middle name?

TheCuntwormUnderfoot · 08/02/2012 14:55

Not keen on hyphenated names at all.

And I can bet you anything she'll just end up as Lola!

Marianne is the nicest and most classic of the variants for Mary, I think.

Mari and Mair are the Welsh forms, any good?
