Arthur Rupert
or
Wilfred Matthew

Which would you choose and why?

(Surname English, common, begins with 'S')

Not my sort of names but if I had to choose one, I'd got for Wilfred Matthew.
Wouldnt mind the nn Wilf.

AWomanCalledHorse · 02/02/2012 10:46

Arthur Rupert S would mean ARS...which would be a little to close to ARSE for me (we've got an S surname too).

I like Wilfred Matthew most as I love the nn Wilf, and if he hates Wilf he could always be Fred (plus Wilfred would suit anyone from a shelf stacker to a PM)!

fredandginger · 02/02/2012 10:50

There will be a second middle name (James) which would come before the surname of either name. Didn't mention it as it is fixed and decided. But yes, ARS would be terrible! Would be ARJS

Please not Wilfred, it's just awful.

If it has to be one of the two I would go with Arthur. Also dislike Rupert so I would go for Arthur Matthew James.......

SoFarWeAreEqual · 02/02/2012 12:34

Please not Wilfred.

Arthur is gorgeous.

ReneeVivien · 02/02/2012 12:40

Arthur Rupert

DefiniteMaybe · 02/02/2012 17:15

I love Arthur. I think nn artie so cute for a baby.

phlossie · 02/02/2012 17:23

Both are gorgeous - but, yes, Arthur Rupert is a no-no because of the initials.

halecromp · 02/02/2012 18:16

Wilfred Matthew as I love the nn Wilf

Karbea · 02/02/2012 18:30

I really like Arthur Rupert.

SoupDragon · 02/02/2012 18:33

Arthur

titan · 02/02/2012 18:37

I like all the names but agree about the initials. The second middle name initial will often get missed out so even if it's ARJS it will often be written as just ARS. If you decide on Arthur and Rupert could you do Arthur James Rupert?

patchworkchick · 02/02/2012 18:47

Arthur Rupert, every Rupert I've ever known has been a darling and Arthur is a great name (but only have a daughter and never had the chance to name a boy).

SoozyWoozy · 03/02/2012 09:44

My combo would be Arthur Matthew, I can't get past Rupert Bear....

reallacecurtains · 03/02/2012 10:18

Arthur with Art (as in Garfunkel) for short.

Very cool.

whatsmyage · 04/02/2012 07:03

Both very nice - Arthur would probably edge it for me (Wilfred is already "taken" for me anyway which probably colours my view!) Great choice either way.

MaggieAtwood · 04/02/2012 09:39

Arthur Rupert runs into each other so I would choose Wilfred Matthew (plus I prefer Wilfred to Arthur).

Like Rupert as a first name also.

Hulababy · 04/02/2012 09:40

Like Arthur

Not keen on Wilfred but nn Wilf is fine and I like Fred too.

BenderBendingRodriguez · 04/02/2012 09:41

Wilfred Matthew. Arthur is inescapably the cartoon rabbit mouse thing on CBBC, and Rupert spoiled forever by a horrid spoilt brat wankerface at secondary school.

NatureAbhorsAHoover · 04/02/2012 10:49

Wilfred is great - love those old WW1 soldier names, even though some of them (Archie, Alfie) are becoming a bit overused.

pilates · 04/02/2012 12:59

Wilfred James or Arthur James

dislike Rupert
