You can't pinch a name

TBH, I would find it flattering

If you give the new baby a name that Belle could be a nickname for, and your DD just happens to then nickname the baby Belle, then it would be purely accidental, wouldn't it?!

Isabelle
Arabella
Annabel
Belinda
Mabel?!

I'ld be flattered, if your friend thinks she has a copyright to a commonish name then she would BU.

What about Isabelle or Isabella and shorten it to make em a little different?

ReduceRecycleRegift · 27/01/2012 18:30

Grin @ Natasha

Clareypen · 27/01/2012 19:16

Mirabelle, and Annabella is quite nice

JuluLu · 28/01/2012 07:43

Choose something else! Belle is awful.

DottieRose · 28/01/2012 15:16

TBH I would be so so so annoyed but thats just me!

Haziedoll · 28/01/2012 15:17

I would be annoyed.

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 28/01/2012 15:31

Belle is not awful Angry My little cousin is Belle and it really suits her :)

I'd never name my child the same name as a friends child, unless it was something I'd always wanted to use and if it was I would tell the friend at the time they named their child... 'Belle, that's lovely, it's the name we will be using if we have a/another girl' and tell them the reason if there is one 'it was my Grandmothers name' 'I've loved it since I was a child' or whatever, so they know well in advance.

rhibutterfly · 28/01/2012 15:39

there time to come to agreement on something else, even though she quite adamant at the moment, but must say she has good taste as i cannot come up with anything myself i like as much,my mum choose her name (Hannah) and it really suits her.My elder sister named me,she refused to call me by my parents choosen name so they relented lol

I'd be annoyed.

awomenscorned · 28/01/2012 15:44

I like Belle.

RitaMorgan · 28/01/2012 15:47

It's a silly thing to be annoyed about - if a family member used the same name as you then maybe, but a friend? I don't get it.

JustHecate · 28/01/2012 15:49

Belle is really better as a nickname. You need to think about the adult, not just the baby. Belle is cute on a toddler - but on a 40 yr old? I think something nice that can be shortened to Belle if she wants to might work.

just my pov Grin not a command or anything

cece · 28/01/2012 15:51

Wouldn't bother me. In a way it is flattering. And who knows if you will still be friends in 5, 10 or 20 years time anyway?!

With my third DC we ended up using a name that a couple of my friends had already used. AFAIK all was fine - well to my face said they were pleased I had used the same name. LOL Having said that it is ectremely popular name unlike Belle.

What about Bella? Seems somehow a bit prettier than just Belle.

Depends upon how close a friend. Is this someone you are likely to be close with in 10 years time? Then she would likely feel a bit miffed

If it is someone you know from school then far less of a issue

darleneconnor · 28/01/2012 19:28

Disney princess crap- even infiltrates baby names!

Kaekae · 29/01/2012 20:40

I prefer Annabel with Bell as NN. There are so many names out there do you really want to use the same name your friend has chosen?

marshmallowpies · 30/01/2012 11:45

Not keen on Belle as a name on its own...Annabel, Belinda etc are all lovely names and then you have a choice of nn for her as she's growing up.

Sandalwood · 30/01/2012 15:23

Is it because of Baby Bell that your DD wants to call the baby Belle?
(Sorry, I am trying to keep the cheese out of my head)

rhibutterfly · 30/01/2012 21:10

lol sandalwood no i think it beauty and the beast's Belle, i tried Bella (no go) i bit the bullet and text my friend, she said she's not bothered so hope she telling the truth in case nothing else comes up xx

I think it depends if it's a really close friend you're likely to see all the time. Of my extended friendship group there are two young daughters with the same (popular) name- but since we all grew a bit older and don't live that close any more it's less of an issue...
