Need opinions on my boys shortlist please!

Hi all!

I am due in a couple of weeks and whilst we have some names we really LIKE, so far nothing has leapt out as LOVE.

Your opinions/thoughts might help us decide!

Darwin (current fave)
Orson (my phone corrected that to prison first time... An omen?! ;)
Forest
Faraday (too girly? Also sounds odd with our surname)

Hit me with your thoughts!

not really my style of names but from your list I prefer Faraday.

My son is called Max - sometimes called Maxi which my phone corrects to Nazi!

All lovely and not overused. Particularly like Darwin.

Orson, then Darwin.

Orson first, Forest last!

Not my style in names in general but like Orson the best followed by Darwin. Not keen on the others at all. Sorry and good luck!

Orson is v cool. Strong, spellable, unusual.

I love Forrest and it's a family middle name but I do think the teasing potential as a first name is huge, sadly!

Thank you all for feedback! I realise that the names I like are not to all tastes but as long as there is no massive teasing potential I am still happy with them!
Orson and Darwin are my favourites - I think based on that and your feedback it will most likely be one of those!

I know about the Darwin awards - I'm not bothered. As far as I know they were named as such because the winners were people that were affected by natural selection, not because Darwin was stupid

Orson - used to be a pretty good band who supported Robbie Williams called Orson :) I have lovely memories of laying in the sun, drinking a pint and listening to them.... ahhhhh life before children

Are Darwin and Faraday there as tributes to the scientists or are you just being pretentious?

i realise i'm being a bit blunt, and it is entirely your choice, but these names just scream "trying too hard" at me.

Darwin has meaning for us. We are nerds...Can't be bothered to explain the little nuances of our relationship etc to explain why, but it does, and yes it's partially a tribute to the scientist.
In that vein, DH then decided that he liked faraday as well.
I don't care if people think it's 'try hard'. It doesn't matter what our reasons are, there will always be someone judgey who will whisper try hard behind our back

(DS1 and DS2 probably won't thank us for their try hard pretentious names either )

Oh and I did some googling earlier tonight and ruled out Faraday. There was an old MN thread about it with people saying "please no!" and I figured that whilst I liked it, other people considered it child abuse and I'm not THAT mean

I love Forrest - it was on our list for DS1. I think there are other people with this name - an actor. Who cares!
Also like Orson (also on our list!) and Otis.

Faraday not sure as would get shortened to Farah which is more girly or a nasty pair of mens trousers. Think there was a character in Lost called it though - the boffin scientist!

I like all of your names though - they obviously have a background meaning and are not just some you have found in a book :)

Thanks Rocket74. Yes we like names with a meaning for us. I love the name Bear but I realise that whilst it's good for a Newfoundland dog, it's not a for person, and Orson means bear.

Not bothered about the Darwin award association; as I said before, the Darwin implies people that are dead as a result of natural selection, not because Darwin was an idiot.

But obviously any child of mine will only hang out with the upper echelons of society and so it won't be an issue
