Hi All,
Have been having awful trouble trying to agree on our girls name-ideally we had wanted a form of Mary but felt Molly has become away too popular but a mumsnetter suggested Polly & I cant get it out of my head lol!!! The name we have agreed on(for the moment!!) is not a form of Mary but having Mary as second name. Loving Polly at the moment:)
What do you think of
Polly Kate
Polly Katherine
Polly Kitty
Thanks in advance

Polly Kate or Polly Katherine, lovely.

ElaineReese · 21/01/2012 23:32

If you're having polly, I think the middle name should be a longer more traditional name, so I'd go for Katherine rather than Kate or kitty.

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 21/01/2012 23:58

Polly Kitty DS like a doll.

The other two are nice, though I prefer Catherine with a C. I love the name Kate, but agree with Elaine that a longer (traditional) name sounds much better.

SlinkingOutsideInFrocks · 21/01/2012 23:59

...sounds like a doll.

MrsJoeDuffy · 22/01/2012 00:03

Polly Catherine.

I met a Polina yesterday which is a nice variant on Polly!

FantasticDay · 22/01/2012 00:08

We have a Polly, so I'm biased - Polly Katherine is my favourite

Dee03 · 22/01/2012 00:11

Not polly kitty....doesn't sound right.
Polly Katherine sound the best out of the 3

YummyMummybee · 22/01/2012 00:34

Thanks for the replies. Yes it would be Polly Catherine with a C, I do like Polly an awful lot but we loved Molly but it is just so so popular we feel(well I feel hubby not really liking Polly!) that Polly is a nice alternative to Molly & it still means Mary....
Thought Molly had died off a bit but heard of 5 different Mollys since xmas:( We have a no 1 name(for the moment!!) Any more opinions on Polly & how it compares to Molly would be greatly appreciated!
Also Maisy would be a nice version of Mary too how would this compare to Polly?

love it, have been called it as a nickname myself and i like it.

auntyfash · 22/01/2012 00:58

If you like a name then just go for it. I don't get all this "ooh it's become far too commom" shite.

mathanxiety · 22/01/2012 05:25

Polly Kitty is a cross between a parrot and a cat.

I like Polly Katherine (I like Katherine with a K, or Kathryn). I think Polly is nicer than Molly by a long shot. Molly says 'mothballs' to me but Polly is fresh.

nooka · 22/01/2012 06:47

I like Polly Catherine, and prefer Polly to Molly or Maisy, Maisy is a bit cutsie to me and Molly a bit of an old fashioned kitchen maid name. I think that there will be fewer other Polly's about too. Plus you can read her Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf Grin

CoffeeMum · 22/01/2012 07:05

Really like Polly, love it actually, but agree you need the longer, more traditional middle name with it. Catherine works really well Smile

exoticfruits · 22/01/2012 07:17

Polly Katherine

Almanzo · 22/01/2012 07:32

I am confused by the Mary references. Surely Polly can't be a version of Mary? I know that vaguely Mary=Margaret (ish) = Molly= rhymes with Polly
All your choices are cutesie, ragdolly, sort of names. Could you give her a name that could be shortened to Polly? Paulina? Paulette? Won't be ANY of those about!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 22/01/2012 07:39

Not keen on Polly or Molly but each to their own. I agree with who ever pointed out that popularity of names shouldn't put you off. I've got a Ruby.
What about Maria or Marianne as a form of Mary?

CheerfulYank · 22/01/2012 07:43

Polly is a nn for Mary, Almanzo. :) Odd, but like Daisy being a nn for Margaret.

I think Polly is lovely and goes well with Catherine.

mathanxiety · 22/01/2012 07:47

Corresponds to Peggy being a nn for Margaret.

Isla77 · 22/01/2012 12:24

I have a Polly and her middle name is Naomi. Our last name is a two syllable name and I think it sounds great. She has never been called Polly parrot and most people think her name is pretty but fairly unusual. Go for it. You will love it. My daughter really likes her name and is pleased that not many other people seem to have it. No others in her school and never met another so far. She is 10.

Montsti · 22/01/2012 12:32

Love Molly and Polly! Unfortunately wouldn't be able to use either due to the shortened form of DS's name....

Although I find Milly, Lilly etc.. a bit cutesy and childlike I think Molly and Polly also suit teenagers/adults...

I would go for a longer "full" name as a mn, therefore Polly/Molly Catherine. Personally I wouldn't worry about popularity and go with the name you and DH like best...

CecilyP · 22/01/2012 12:38

Polly Katharine sounds good. Polly Kitty is a no no.

YummyMummybee · 22/01/2012 12:47

Thanks for the replies girls, being honest I was very surprised to see Polly as a form of Mary when I googled varients of Mary-cannot see the link at all. I do love the name now though-Isla 77 thats great that your little girl loves her name Polly Naomi is gorgeous! I can't understand why Molly & Holly are so popular but Polly never really took off and its so pretty!
