After much to-ing and fro-ing, we have a name!

Celyn Wynter D.....

That's the first name we've been able to agree on! I'm under no illusions that it will be the name we finally choose, but we both like it and the Celyn bit really appeals to the Welsh in me. Wynter is his choice.

What do you think? Be gentle please

How do you pronounce it? sorry!

BeetrootPasty · 07/01/2012 21:59

How do you pronouce it? See-Lynne or Kell-in?

mistressploppy · 07/01/2012 22:01

Lovely Smile

BeetrootPasty · 07/01/2012 22:02

And have I got Wynter right - pronouncing it as Winter? If so, I like it - for some reason though, my brain makes me want to pronounce Wynter as Wine-terr Hmm.

deemented · 07/01/2012 22:03

Kell-in, and Wynter as in Winter - sorry, should have said earlier Smile

I like Celyn but I don't like Wynter spelt like that - sorry!

Celyn Winter would look better imo.

BeetrootPasty · 07/01/2012 22:23

In that case, it's a very pretty name Grin.

I would personally spell Wynter as Winter but it's also a very nice name.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 07/01/2012 22:29

Celyn is a beautiful name. I can lay claim to no Welsh whatsoever so it's ruled out for me but it's gorgeous.

GRW · 07/01/2012 22:46

Lovely name and very unusual.

oikopolis · 08/01/2012 02:52

I'd never heard of Celyn before. Apparently it means "holly" in Welsh? to be totally frank, it does seem made-up to me at first glance, but it does seem to be legit, so there you go.

Personally I would go with Kellan, only because I presume that most people your child will meet in his life will not be Welsh speakers, and hence he'll have it almost always mispronounced and/or misspelt. If it were a more widely known Welsh name, I wouldn't say that... but it's rare, as far as I can tell. You may even find that many Welsh people aren't familiar with it.

Wynter is really not good at all. Winter is better. Please don't give him second name that will be constantly misspelt too.

Beyond spelling issues, personally I wouldn't use Winter unless it was a family name of some kind. It's odd, and actually quite markedly feminine to my ear.

Sorry, I wish I had more positive feedback. I quite like Kellan, fwiw.

lisaro · 08/01/2012 02:58

Celyn is lovely - Wynter? No.

hohohoshedittant · 08/01/2012 03:07

oikopolis I think Celyn is a girls name.

I know two (both girls) one is Celyn the other Kellan. I quite like it.

Don't like Wynter at all. If you must use it then please spell it properly.

OneHandWavingFree · 08/01/2012 03:47

Celyn is lovely.

I don't like Wynter at all (sorry) and I like it even less with that spelling and following a first name that has a 'yn' in it too.

But as it's a middle name maybe it doesn't matter so much.

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 08/01/2012 04:34

Why the 'y' in Wynter? Is it to make it more different, interesting, unique? Because if so, it doesn't IMHO.

lollystix · 08/01/2012 04:48

Celyn- lovely. Winter - fine but please not with the 'y' as it really cheapens it.

seeker · 08/01/2012 05:06

Isn't Celyn a girl's name?

ScroobiousPip · 08/01/2012 05:09

celyn is lovely. but if you're going trad welsh then it would be good to match it with a welsh middle name. i'm afraid i don't like wynter either - 'whiny wynter'. understandable if it's a family name but not one i'd choose if i had the choice. sorry.

nooka · 08/01/2012 06:25

I thought that Celyn was a boys name, but I see that it seems to be used for girls too now, but with Wynter (and I agree with everyone else the 'y' looks very wrong to me too) as a middle name it's a very androgynous combination - was that your intention OP? Are you thinking of the name for either a boy or girl? Very efficient I guess Grin

mathanxiety · 08/01/2012 06:31

Lovely. I would prefer Winter with an I too.

diddl · 08/01/2012 08:24

Don´t like Wynter al all.
(Or Winter)

Bluestocking · 08/01/2012 08:39

Celyn is lovely. Wynter is awful.

seeker · 08/01/2012 09:03

Do be careful giving a boy a name that people think of as female. Even if they are wrong to think that.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 08/01/2012 09:03

I assumed it was a girl, is it not then?
