To think this name is actually quite cool?

DD's first day back at pre-school today and there was a new little boy called Van/Vann (not sure on spelling). At first I was a bit Hmm but the more I thought about it the more I liked it, I think it is actually quite a nice name - sounds good with a nice surname too.
Friend whose DC's go to pre-school was gobsmacked and whispered, once outside the gates, 'Why not just call him Truck or Lorry?'

Not even pregnant, but think it will be going on my 'boys name list' that I mentally store Grin

I have to say my first response was what next "here is baby car"

Not a fan of it personally, although it could start a whole new trend of children named after everyday items!

mothmagnet · 06/01/2012 19:04

That is cool, like Van Morrison.
I may have been tempted to do the lorry joke too though, he has a lifetime of that to come I think.

Maybe his parents are Van Morrison fans?

lisaro · 06/01/2012 19:04

Honestly? YABU, it's bloody awful.

ViolaCrayola · 06/01/2012 19:04

Like Van Morrison? Is that short for something?

Sirzy · 06/01/2012 19:06

Van morrisions real name is george Ivan Morrison

Whatmeworry · 06/01/2012 19:06

I hope his surname is not Ford, or Austin, or Morris etc etc. Poor kid.

mothmagnet · 06/01/2012 19:07

George Morrison, not so rock.

Ivan's nice though.

carabos · 06/01/2012 19:08

Is his surname White?

thepeoplesprincess · 06/01/2012 19:09

Van Halen or Morrison? Actually, Halen's a pretty cool name as well.

diddl · 06/01/2012 19:09

Van "the man" Morrison-how could it not be cool?

moanymandy · 06/01/2012 19:10

I quite like it! And not sure what this says about me but I didn't connect the whole van/car thing when I first read it!

cheesesarnie · 06/01/2012 19:11

BandOMothers · 06/01/2012 19:12

Van Morrison in L.A. = Cool

"Van" in Weton Supermare or Rochdale = Van Tesco

or Van Sainsbo's

cheesesarnie · 06/01/2012 19:12

my first thought was vans shoes

iklboo · 06/01/2012 19:14

Or maybe his surname is Gough? Grin

GwendolineMaryLacey · 06/01/2012 19:15

There was a Van on Cbeebies birthday cards the other day. Wonder if it's the same one. I can't remember the age.

Van is a great rock name! I like it, not sure I'ld be rock n roll enough to get away with calling one of my kids that but in the right family it would be very cool!

KateShmate · 06/01/2012 19:21

Gwen and Bear - obviously pre-school age, but not sure exactly.. would probably say 3.5. He was the cutest little thing though!

Love the name Ivan.

Floggingmolly · 06/01/2012 19:25

No, it's not.

KateShmate · 06/01/2012 19:25

Am pretty sure it wasn't short for anything as at DD's pre-school they all have name cards - my DD has a 'nickname' which is short for her name and has never really been called by her 'proper name', but pre-school insisted that her full name was on her card.
Just cant remember the spelling - think it was with 2 n's - Vann.
