Do you know any children? If you do, ask them what the word "Minnie" means to them.

Then think of another name.

NickNacks · 05/01/2012 12:56

Yes as above.

It's the littlies word for vagina round here...

patsdeadfrank · 05/01/2012 12:57

seriously i am sorry but the first thing that popped in to my head was "vagina" then Grin but i changed my mind because i thought it was to rude until i saw the previous post.

VivaLeBeaver · 05/01/2012 12:57

Yes, was coming here to say Vagina but have been beaten to it.

TanteRose · 05/01/2012 12:59

first person that popped into my head was Minnie Driver - googled her, and she was born Amelia, which is lovely!

PercyFilth · 05/01/2012 13:00

What about Frances, shortened to Fanny? [/joking]

Have to say, though, I have never encountered Minnie as a euphemism for vagina anywhere but on mumsnet.

ChocolatEtVin · 05/01/2012 13:01

I know a Minnie short for Jasmine. I don't mean to be rude but the poor girl gets a lot of stick for her name given that she isn't, well, minnie.

EdithWeston · 05/01/2012 13:01

Hermione? Jasmine? Minette?

Bloodyhellthathurts · 05/01/2012 13:02

I'd also be worried that the gods would conspire against me and she'd end up enormous.

BroomForMyChin · 05/01/2012 13:03

Just another voice agreeing that Minnie = vagina.

WinkyWinkola · 05/01/2012 13:04

I have never ever heard Minnie used for vagina. Well, I'm glad actually. Dh loves the name - it's his late aunt's name - and he wants to use it if we have a dd this year. I do not like Minni myself so was looking for alternatives. Great news! Surely we can't possibly use it now? Grin

really percy? i remember at school that running around and me not having any idea what people were on about Grin also didnt know jasmine was shortened to minnie, dp has a dd called that and she calls her vagina her minnie Hmm though i once said huh? oh you mean your vagina and now she runs around talking about her vagina. probably better given her name.

CumpyGrunt · 05/01/2012 13:07

I agree

Minnie = vagina where I'm from.

seeker · 05/01/2012 13:07

Could it be a Southern thing? I hadn't heard it either until my children went to school, and found looking at family photographs hysterical- my grandma was Minnie!

EdithWeston · 05/01/2012 13:07

I suppose it could also be an homage to Minnie Caldwell from Corrie.

Also: Amina, Wilhemina?

patsdeadfrank · 05/01/2012 13:08

nope perfect reason to not use it winky Grin

AlmaMartyr · 05/01/2012 13:08

I've never heard of 'minnie' meaning vagina except on Mumsnet either. Probably wouldn't use it as a name having heard that though.

RickGhastley · 05/01/2012 13:08

Defo a vagina around here (south east!).

Ds has a little friend called Minna which I think is pretty, do you like that?

adinaabfab · 05/01/2012 13:11

Yes people use Minnie for vagina but I do know a Minnie and don't think er fanny just think its a sweet name. Mary is also used for vagina and people don't seem to mind using that. Smile

FrizzBath · 05/01/2012 13:14

Minerva?

JustHecate · 05/01/2012 13:16

Hermione? Miriam? I think it's also a nickname for Mary

Mikocat · 05/01/2012 13:17

I have never heard the vagina thing! Shock

I always though Minnie was short for Wilhemina.

A lot of wags have suggested Minnie to us as my name is Mikki!

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 05/01/2012 13:17

Fanny is also a name in itself Smile

Dds nickname is Mini, though it doesn't really relate to her name.

Tortoise · 05/01/2012 13:19

DD2 is called Yazmin which was shortened to Minnie when she was little.
Unfortunately, for her, she was also called Minnie Moo and has now become just Moo! Grin

jandymaccomesback · 05/01/2012 13:40

I had a Great Aunt Minnie, shortened to Min. I think Minnie was her actual name. Why does it have to be short for something?
Never heard of the euphemism here.
