I knew a Minnie when I was young. It was short for Victoria. Confused

heymammy · 05/01/2012 13:52

Minnie def not short for vagina around here. What about Marina?

poppydaisy · 05/01/2012 13:59

I've never heard of a vagina being called Minnie Confused.

How about Miranda?

Theas18 · 05/01/2012 14:22

Minnie=girlie bits (local here-midlands)

Also car and small/petite so if said minnie is minnie they'll get shredded at school but also if they are a well built young lady.

I know kids will be teased what ever, but not many people will call their William "Our little Willie" do they... (mainly because Bill/Billy/Will are "cool" names, I digress)

oikopolis · 05/01/2012 17:37

Minnie is traditionally a nn for Wilhelmina.

It's all Disney to me, so I wouldn't use it personally.

WhatstheScenario · 05/01/2012 17:49

I know a little Mia who's parents shorten it to Minnie, and another Minnie (adult) who is called Ramona.

pranma · 05/01/2012 19:00

Minerva and Wilhelmina are the obvious ones but I like Araminta and Carmina too

mincepiefreak · 05/01/2012 19:10

Minnie is also a vagina here in the East Midlands unfortunately!
I would love the name Jasmine for a DD but had never thought about the nickname Minnie for it Confused

TheCokeMachine · 05/01/2012 19:39

I had a great aunt called Minnie - her name was Margaret.

fairieswearboots · 06/01/2012 14:42

From oop north here too, and never before heard of Minnie meaning vagina.
How about Dominique? Then she would have a lovely name and Dad could call her minnie as his pet name? Other nn could be Domi, Nicky or Nico

HonkSquonkFronk · 06/01/2012 14:55

I'm living in Yorkshire and Minnie is short for vagina around here. I still think its a nice name though.

rosesatdawn · 06/01/2012 14:56

i think minnie can like molly be a diminuitive for mary

alternatively
miriam
philomena
wilhemina
carmen?

HintofBream · 06/01/2012 15:28

Our DGD Amalie is usually called Minnie, and no, I have never heard of it used for a vagina.

frutilla · 06/01/2012 18:00

Never heard of the minnie vag thing...
Melinda, Malina, Emiliana, Hermione, Araminta.

cakeismysaviour · 06/01/2012 18:37

Minnie = vagina here too (Lincs)

seeker · 06/01/2012 18:46

Look, it's all very well people saying "oh, I've never heard it used for vagina- you go ahead and use the name"

Can you, hand on heart, promise the op that her daughter will not be going to a school where that's what it means? And if you can't then it's just stupid to encourage anyone to use the name. .Oh and the "kids will always find something to tease about" is stupid too. Of course they will, but they won't have to look far if you send your child to school called vagina, will they?!

Honestly I think some people have just forgotten what it's like to be a child!

sashh · 07/01/2012 09:05

I thought it was Millicent, as in Millie Molly Mandy

CaipirinhasAllRound · 07/01/2012 15:21

The only Minnie I know is called Miranda

Never heard of it used for 'bits' before and I'm a Midlander too

rosesatdawn · 08/01/2012 20:17
