DC5 is due on 28th December so we are obviously getting into a bit of a panick over choosing a name! Other DCs are Tobias, Jago, Sorrell and Asa. We've got a list of names that we both like but, to be honest, some of the boys names are a bit more normal than our other DCs names! What do you think of them and can you suggest anything a bit more out there?

Boys
Marcus
Dominic
Todd
Rupert
Leonard (with the nn Lenny)
We also like Woody but what could it be a nn for?

Girls
Violet
Ivy
Saffron
Fearne
Indigo
Eleanor (with the nn Nora)

What do you think of them and what are your favourites? Are there any you strongly dislike?

Love Marcus.
Dominic is nice.
Todd is ok.
Don't like Rupert.
Hate Leonard.
Woody is truly terrible.

Love Violet.
Don't like Ivy.
No to Saffron.
Fearne is nice.
Don't like Indigo.
Eleanor is very nice. As is Nora.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/12/2011 20:54

Dominic or Marcus
Eleanor/ Nora

schmee · 09/12/2011 21:00

You can't have Saffron and Sorrel surely? How about Arlo or Seth for a boy and Martha or Greta for a girl?

Marcus, Dominic and Rupert are a bit Jilly Cooper. I like Lenny but not Leonard. Personally I love Woody but prefer Arlo (both the Guthries). Like Violet. Don't like Ivy or Fearne. Indigo is nice but sounds a bit like the boys name Inigo. How about India? Eleanor is nice - I like the nn Nell.

tummytickler · 09/12/2011 21:00

I love Woody, nn for Woodrow, and think it fits beautifully with your other dc.
Leonard is lovely too.
Not keen on the other boys.

Violet is lovely, Saffron is quite cute, and fits (and has Saffy as a cute nn)
I also like Indigo and Nell (but not for Eleanor - Helena. Really not keen on Eleanor)

ChocolatEtVin · 09/12/2011 22:24

I do like Arlo but it's a bit too similar to Jago. Also re Saffron and Sorrell - We would probably use Saffy a lot more than Saffron

Boys
Marcus - nice but too normal
Dominic - nice but too normal
Todd - reminds me of Todd Carty from Grange Hill
Rupert - bleurgh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Leonard (with the nn Lenny) - old man
We also like Woody but what could it be a nn for? - Cool! NN for Edward

I think

Alfio, Milo, Otis, Theo, Rory, Angus would all be great names with your other children.

Girls
Violet - Pretty
Ivy - Old lady
Saffron - bit too close to Sorrell?
Fearne - Britton
Indigo - Not sure I would want that name at my age!
Eleanor (with the nn Nora) - Nora is ok

Also, Nell, Imogen, Romilly, Bea, Libby, Autumn

ChocolatEtVin · 09/12/2011 22:39

Oooh I like the suggestions of Angus and Romilly - what would be a nice nn for the latter?

OP posts:
AnotherMincepie · 09/12/2011 22:41

I like Dominic and Leonard/Lenny for a boy, Violet or Ivy for a girl.

NorkyPiesWithJingleBellsOn · 09/12/2011 22:48

Romy nn for Romilly.

zipzap · 09/12/2011 22:48

Boys - like Marcus and Dominic Woody could be nn for Woodridge
Girls - like Eleanor - and the later added Romilly (stomps feet. I was going to suggest that!)

Also like:
Boys - Ptolomy, Jethro, Inigo, Seth, Atticus
Girls - Romilly, Hester, Lauren

NorkyPiesWithJingleBellsOn · 09/12/2011 22:48

Or Millie.

hohohoshedittant · 10/12/2011 03:35

I would use Woody as a nickname for Edward.

Marcus -- too fancy. What's wrong with Marc?
Dominic -- LOVE
Todd -- bleurgh
Rupert -- the bear
Leonard (with the nn Lenny) -- very nice in a 50s way.
We also like Woody but what could it be a nn for? -- is American slang that will eventually take hold. Look up urban dictionary

Violet -- nice but makes me misread 'violent' all the time; conversely makes me think 'shrinking violet'
Ivy -- nice, would go with your other names
Saffron -- stylish and nice, would go well with the others
Fearne -- a plant that does best in the shade - I don't think it would suit a robust, high spirited child
Indigo hippie-->downmarket
Eleanor (with the nn Nora) -- lovely but I would use Nora on its own or you run the risk of having a child called Ellie by all her friends

I think Dominic, Leonard and Saffron are my favourites.

Suggestions:
Romy
Aphra
Zinnia
Mahalia
Eirlys
Juno

CheerfulYank · 10/12/2011 04:41

Like Indigo but for a boy. (As in the Casson family, which also has a Saffron :))

I like Juniper for a girl...Juni is a sweet nickname.

nooka · 10/12/2011 05:56

I think Dominic would probably work, and Saffron if you didn't have a Sorrell (too many 'S's plus too culinary, makes it feel a bit 'matchy' to me). Romilly is cool - I knew a very dynamic Romy.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 10/12/2011 06:04

Clearly your taste in names is completely different to mine, so I think it's best I don't post my opinion Grin, but I plead on behalf of your unborn child that you strike 'woody' off of your list. He doesn't want to be sniggered at his whole life!! (quite a common name for an erect penis).

manicinsomniac · 10/12/2011 10:53

Marcus - not keen really, sounds a bit middle aged to me, though I do know a couple of children with the name so that's obviously just me.
Dominic - quite like
Todd - mmm, don't like it.
Rupert - dislike. Very posh.
Leonard - it's ok but don't like Lenny. I'd use Leo or Leon.
Woody - It's sounds cute but I think it's a bit cruel

How about - Theo, Milan, Anthony, Quinn

Violet - It's ok
Ivy - don't like it
Saffron - love it (esp Saffy)
Fearne - it's ok
Indigo - I like it
Eleanor - ok but would become Ellie and I don't like that.

How about - Asha, Enya, Elin, Halle, Jessamy, Lyra, Rowan, Thea

ChocolatEtVin · 10/12/2011 14:15

Zinnia is amazing! I also really like Romy so those two are firmly on the list :)
As for boys suggestions Seth and Angus are fab as well.
Will but all of these suggestions forward to DH tonight - he's spent the day christmas shopping with the DCs Xmas Grin

aubergineinautumn · 10/12/2011 15:30

I think Azalea (sp) is pretty. I like the flower names you don't hear very often.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/12/2011 16:22

Boys
Marcus - not fond
Dominic - not fond
Todd - really like it, surprisingly
Rupert - love it

We also like Woody but what could it be a nn for? - horrible

Girls
Violet - lovely
Ivy -ok
Saffron - don't like
Fearne - ugh
Indigo - horrible
Eleanor (with the nn Nora) - love Eleanor but Nora is v v bad imho
Zinnia is really, really horrible - it makes Fearne sound classy.

proudfoot · 10/12/2011 17:52

I love Dominic and Eleanor (Nora)
