DC5 is due on 28th December so we are obviously getting into a bit of a panick over choosing a name! Other DCs are Tobias, Jago, Sorrell and Asa. We've got a list of names that we both like but, to be honest, some of the boys names are a bit more normal than our other DCs names! What do you think of them and can you suggest anything a bit more out there?

Boys
Marcus
Dominic
Todd
Rupert
Leonard (with the nn Lenny)
We also like Woody but what could it be a nn for?

Girls
Violet
Ivy
Saffron
Fearne
Indigo
Eleanor (with the nn Nora)

What do you think of them and what are your favourites? Are there any you strongly dislike?

I really like Dominic and Lenny is sweet. Leonard is a little bit too old man-ish for my tastes. Leo?
Todd is repulsive. Rupert is quite popular these days, but still says posh twat to me.
Woody short for Edward?

Girls names OK. Saffron is my favourite. Indigo is awful. Prefer Fern to Fearne.

ChocolatEtVin · 10/12/2011 22:37

So the concensus seems to be a firm no for Todd and Indigo then?

Boys
Marcus - like but prefer Mark
Dominic - like
Todd - really like this one
Rupert - doesn't really 'go' with your other DC names
Leonard (with the nn Lenny) - LOVE it especially Lenny
We also like Woody but what could it be a nn for? - not sure about this one

Girls
Violet - not for me
Ivy - nor this one
Saffron - nor this one
Fearne - like a lot
Indigo - no
Eleanor (with the nn Nora) - like just Nora TBH

cece · 10/12/2011 22:45

What I like about Todd is that it means fox doesn't it?

mathanxiety · 10/12/2011 22:55

I believe so -- hence "The Tale of Mr. Tod".

racingheart · 10/12/2011 23:01

I like Leonard best - Lenny or Leo are both cute, and the name fits really well with your other DC's names.

Love Eleanor, but it is a very popular name and it seems you go for more offbeat ones than this usually.
Xanthe, Kitty, Scout, Claude?

I don't mind Dominic, Rupert, Ivy, Indigo or Eleanor but think that Nora is awful...

Rhubarbgarden · 11/12/2011 09:39

I think your girls names are lovely although I much prefer the spelling Fern. How about Willow? Not keen on your boys names. How about Conrad or Magnus?

Rhubarbgarden · 11/12/2011 09:39

Or Hazel or Margot?

ChocolatEtVin · 11/12/2011 12:36

I do agree that Eleanor is very popular, but I don't know whether Nora could be a name on it's own without being spelt 'Norah' which I don't like. With Indigo we just love the nn Indie - is that a name on its own?

timetoask · 11/12/2011 12:45

My vote goes for Rupert and Violet, both lovely names!

lottiegb · 11/12/2011 13:23

Personal thoughts and associations:

Marcus - personal dislike but fine really
Dominic - really like, Dom nice too.
Todd - so awful, I'm seeing beefy shaved head and tattoos, similar to Wayne and Brett, also 'on your tod' 'todger'.

Rupert - self-consciously upmarket
Leonard (with the nn Lenny) - old man wearing nylon slacks and for some reason, weak-willed and complacent. Like Leo / Leopold
We also like Woody but what could it be a nn for? - Woodrow, or surnames ending in wood. Guthrie, Cheers barman and Toy Story generally positive associations but much stronger association as an adjective than a name.

Violet - nice, old ladyish but in a beautiful, revivable way
Ivy - not as attractive, also clingy.
Saffron - nice
Fearne - old lady spelling of Fern. Like the girl in Charlotte's Web and ferns themselves are lovely and interesting but otherwise not so keen.
Indigo - more boyish, Inigo, though with Scarlett and Blue in use as names, why not.
Eleanor (with the nn Nora) - classic and nice

Nancy66 · 11/12/2011 15:33

I only really like Violet - but i have a feeling that will become the next Ruby - in about 10 years

MuddlingThroughItAll · 11/12/2011 22:39

Lenny is absolutely adorable! As are Rupert and Marcus. For girls my favourite is Saffron but I also like Fern and Nora. Good luck!

PeanutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 11/12/2011 23:00

Lennon nn Lenny is very cute
Love violet, ivy and Nora.
Don't like the others, sorry

NoWayNoHow · 11/12/2011 23:09

Marcus - very nice
Dominic - very nice
Todd - bleurgh
Rupert - not my cup of tea really
Leonard (with the nn Lenny) - same as Rupert
Woody - utterly dire IMHO.

Girls
Violet - very pretty
Ivy - also very pretty
Saffron - do'nt like
Fearne - don't like
Indigo - don't like
Eleanor (with the nn Nora) - not bad

oldqueenie · 11/12/2011 23:09

won't comment on list... but suggestions...

amos
moses
vincent
ira
frank (frankie)

glory / gloria
rae
ramona
maeve

happy choosing. like your other dcs names!

lljkk · 11/12/2011 23:17

I vote Todd & Fern (I prefer that spelling), they go best with your other DC names, I reckon.

Lenny is the ultimate in dorky names in my mind.
I like Woody which could be short for Woodrow, but I think you know why you just can't.
Rupert is just... ugh.

CEDR · 12/12/2011 17:37

Faces are Rupert and ivy!

LittleWhiteWolf · 12/12/2011 17:52

If DD had been a boy she would have been Leonard, so I'd go for that or Dominic. Leonard is brilliant IMO as it grows with the boy. Lenny for a baby or toddler, Leo for a child, Leon for a cool teenager and Leonard for an adult. Least thats what I thought...

Not really fussed by any of your girls names TBH. I'd go for Violet or Ivy of those choices.

DesertOrchid · 12/12/2011 17:55

I like Leonard, I think that goes really well.

And I think Violet goes beautifully with Sorrel.

FriedSprout · 12/12/2011 18:10

Isn't Woody another name for an erect penis, also, seem to remember it being used as nn for someone who was a bit "sandwich short of a picnic"

Like Fearne, prefer India to Indigo

Like Marcus, and have you thought about Theo?

LaDiDaDi · 12/12/2011 23:22

Rupert or Nora

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 12/12/2011 23:39

Nora is a name! My great-granny was a Nora.

Woody could be short for Elwood (Blues Brothers).
