Right me and my partner both like names of a completely different 'style' and HATE each other's choices.

We each think our 'style' of names is the better one obviously and have a bet going as to who can get most votes for the name we have each chosen.

In the interest of fairness I will not say who has chosen what name so it's a simple vote between which girl's name you prefer out of the two listed.

If you have a reason as to why you like / hate a certain name please state why.

Thanks :)

Right so the choices are:

Clara
or
Chelsea

Clara definitely Clara. Chelsea is horrid.

TidyDancer · 06/11/2011 19:43

Totally disagree Note! Obviously! The Clarr-a pronounciation is too clunky and doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely. Although they are essentially the same name, I find Clarr-a to be quite an ugly way of saying what is a beautiful name. Clair-a is very pretty on the other hand.

Note2Self · 06/11/2011 19:46

C;aire-ah sounds like someone making a name out of Claire. Like saying Joan-a or Ruth-a or Joy-a, iuswim. Maybe its just me?! But where is Claire-ah used? Clara is a German name, I thought. Where they say Clarr-a. Or am I mistaken?

MadameCastafiore · 06/11/2011 19:49

Clara as long as you say it properly and not Clare ah. Fecking stupid way of saying something which poor kid will spend their lives having to tell people how to pronounce their name.

Chelsea is common chavvy horridness.

TidyDancer · 06/11/2011 19:50

I think it's just you! Wink

It's a well used pronounciation of Clara. I don't believe it to be German in origin, but I do think it became popular over there so I understand why you think that.

TidyDancer · 06/11/2011 19:52

Have an opinion by all means, but "saying it properly", Madame, is not restricting it to one pronounciation.

Love Clara. Chelsea not to my taste.

FunnysInTheGarden · 06/11/2011 21:07

OK it's Clar-ah and I have a DN called Chelsea and she is very lovely and not chavvy at all

thisisyesterday · 06/11/2011 21:08

I like Clara

LaFilleSurLePont · 06/11/2011 21:10

Clar-ah sounds much nicer than Clair-ah imho.

SacreLao · 06/11/2011 21:13

Funnys I am sure no-one called Chelsea is actually chavy, I just thinks to certain tv shows the name Chelsea is associated with chavvy peope.

It more than likely isn't true but it is the first thing I think of, same as many people.

Hence I was trying to prove this point to my OH who insisted Chelsea was a lovely name to add to the shortlist.

You lot are all weird and Clarr-a is not nice. Grin

But the name is actually sweet, and still much nicer than Chelsea which remains awful.

FunnysInTheGarden · 06/11/2011 21:15

oh, I wouldn't call my DC Chelsea either, just making a point!

SacreLao · 06/11/2011 21:32

I wouldn't call my child Clara, nice name but not for me.

It was the first thing I thought of when I told DP that Chelsea was awful, she said fine pick a name and we'll see what people prefer.

I could have gone with bloody Mabel or Ethel and still got more votes Grin

I have never, ever heard Claire-a, it sounds really weird. It's Clar-ra.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 06/11/2011 23:06

You could have gone with Gertrude and got more votes?? What is your OH thinking??? Still - a week off of school runs - you can't knock it!! Grin

lisaro · 07/11/2011 02:16

Chelsea - sounds like a strippers' name. Sorry.

Def Clara out of those two!!

AberdeenAngusina · 08/11/2011 22:22

Clara.

Chelsea was the name chosen by Bill Clinton for his daughter.

And it makes me think of the video for "Chelsea Dagger" by the Fratellis, which is an excellent video, but not one I'd want my DD associated with, name-wise.

seeker · 08/11/2011 22:57

[[

here]] the song Chelsea Clinton is named for. One of my all time favourites.
Towndon · 09/11/2011 10:29

Clara.

So if you're not that keen on Clara, what other names do you like? Can we suggest some more?

tammytoby · 09/11/2011 10:36

If you're not going to use Clara, why ask for our opinions Hmm?
