Kirsteen, what do people think?

Christine, Kristen, Kirsty

I know its a 'real' name but it does sound like a muddle!

Towndon · 03/11/2011 12:46

It's a bit ponderous. I like Kirsten, which sounds lighter.

FairyArmadillo · 03/11/2011 13:19

Prefer the sound of Kirsten or Kirsty.

noddyholder · 03/11/2011 13:20

no

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 03/11/2011 13:21

If you remove the extra unecessary E you've got a decent name.

Ephiny · 03/11/2011 13:48

Kirsten is nicer IMO (lovely in fact), but then I'm not a big fan of 'een' endings on names!

Kirsten is far nicer, Kirsteen looks 'made up'!

QueenVictoria42 · 03/11/2011 19:32

Have you added the extra E because you want people to pronounce it
Ker-steene - like the way Kathleen ends? If that's your reasoning I personally don't like the 'een' ending and the way it sounds. Kirsten with a singular 'e' sounds much nicer regardless of how you pronounce the first syllable - because people will either say Kerr-sten or Kyier-sten.

crazycatlady · 03/11/2011 19:44

I thought it was spelt Kirstine?

But I agree with others that Kirsten is a prettier version.

reelingintheyears · 03/11/2011 19:45

I like Kristin.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 19:45

NOOOO, it sounds like a bastard mix of Kirsty and Christine.

Don't call the poor kid Kirsty or anything similar. That is my name, and I hate it Grin It is such a horrible name, and I get called Kirst (to rhyme with cursed) all the time, and spent all me teenage years being called Krusty the Clown

LalalalalalaSummerHoliday · 03/11/2011 19:47

I went to school with a Kirsteen, in Glasgow, and she was of Highland stock, so to speak.
I like it. But it got mispronounced a lot by non-Scottish people.

LalalalalalaSummerHoliday · 03/11/2011 19:49

On GetOrf's point, my 4yo dd spent a whole wedding calling a Kirsty Curtsy. We thought it was kind of cute...

Christa was the name that caused most confusion at school. We never knew if it was Christa or Kirsta... I was made to stand with my hands on my head at dinner school for getting it wrong...

PorkChopSter · 03/11/2011 19:51

I know 2 in their late 30s. Both known as Kirsty.

GetOrfMo1Land · 03/11/2011 19:55

My aunt's partner is scottish - she is very insistent that nobody south of the border can pronounce my name properly. Something to do with the rolling of the r's Grin

sonniebonnie · 03/11/2011 21:17

I like Kirsten - lovely, classic and currently underused name.

sonniebonnie · 03/11/2011 21:18

But I like Christina even more actually.

exoticfruits · 03/11/2011 21:33

Christina or Kirsty.

1Maya2 · 03/11/2011 23:26

Thanks for all comments. Promise you I haven't made it up, It's definitely a real name. I'm Scottish and I think it's used more here where I live than Kirsten (highlands). I suppose names are often quite local. I think I still like it, any more Scottish views out there?

tabulahrasa · 03/11/2011 23:32

It's definitely a real name, lol I have to say I don't particularly like it though, it's a bit dated I think, not in an old fashioned making a comeback kind of way, but more in a I'd hear it and expect a forty year old way.

I do like Kirsty though, lol

HauntedHengshanRoad · 04/11/2011 05:25

God, no. Kirsteen? Are you having a laugh?

Sounds like a synthetic fabric.

"Lovely curtains. Are they kirsteen?"

Montsti · 04/11/2011 06:11

Sorry I think it is terrible...knew one about 10 years ago and she was awful too so maybe I'm biased...Kirsten is so much nicer!

3isamagicnumber · 04/11/2011 08:52

Not keen on Kirsteen, sorry.

Prefer Kirsten or Kirsty - or even Krista but Kirsteen just doesnt sound right!
