Urgh sorry, you know when you associate a name to a person? Well I know a person called Kirsteen and she is as rough as old boots, a very cheap (if there is a cheaper version) of Jordan.

oohlaalaa · 04/11/2011 14:54

ooh no, I LOVE the names Kristin and Kirsy though.

I know a very musical, lovely and elegant Kristin. She may have influenced me on this name

Montsti · 04/11/2011 15:00

barrysnotter maybe we know the same one!

barrysnotter · 04/11/2011 15:30

Montsti - If she is bright orange, clawed up to the hilt with acrylics, dyed black hair, a padded bra and a serious coke habit, then yes there can't be two of them surely Grin

LalalalalalaSummerHoliday · 04/11/2011 18:20

The Kirsteen I knew was LOVELY! And really gorgeous.

confusedpixie · 04/11/2011 22:21

I dislike it generally, but know a lovely Aussie called Kirsteen and she suits it to a tee! Since meeting her it makes me think of young, friendly and happy people Grin

lisaro · 07/11/2011 02:19

IT sounds like you've mixed up two names and failed to come up with a good one.

ragged · 07/11/2011 06:07

Agree, sounds like a confusion of 2 other perfectly nice names.
Christine is brilliant.

nicknamenotinuse · 07/11/2011 06:42

Kirsten is lovely, Kirsteen is odd. Go with Kirsten!

RnB · 07/11/2011 07:16

Er no. Sorry

AberdeenAngusina · 08/11/2011 22:11

There's a Victorian novel about a Kirsteen, who refuses to marry the man her father wants her to marry, runs away from home, sets up in business in London, makes her fortune and returns to Scotland a wealthy woman, through her own grit, determination and business flair. It's by Margaret Oliphant. So it's a big "Yes" from me for Kirsteen.

AberdeenAngusina · 08/11/2011 22:14

Kirsteen by Margaret O. Oliphant was published in 1891. It's not Oliphant's best novel, but Kirsteen is an excellent heroine.

Atomant · 09/11/2011 06:52

It's definitely a real name, reasonably common usage in Scotland in the 70s. It is a bit dated, I know 2 both in their 30s, both lovely ladies. I don't know any children called it Kirsteen.

Personally, I don't like K names, always find they sound a bit harsh.

1Maya2 · 22/11/2011 11:30

Thanks for the last couple of posts, thought I was going mad and had made Kirsteen up. So excited about the book you mentioned Aberdeen Angusina it's made me like the name even more. Another famous Kirsteen is Kirsty Wark and I think Kirsty is a lovely nickname.

Not made up at all - am in central Scotland and known a couple who go by Kirsteen as well as one going by Kirsty. I think it's suited those I've known and think Kirsty is a good nn. Personally I probably prefer Kirsten. I suspect people outside of Scotland could easily have never heard it before but if that doesn't bother you (and why should it really? after all lots of names are regional) then don't worry about it!

mumbrane · 22/11/2011 17:09

No. Kirsty and Kirsten are horrid, too.

KCENG · 23/12/2011 20:23

Sorry-only just joined so missed this one. I have been a Kirsteen since Jan 1968, and what an excellent, real, not made up, original and traditional name it is! Scottish Gaelic version of Christine, also spelt (I believe) Ciorsdan in the original Gaelic. Causes great confusion, but I'm VERY proud of it!!

lurkerspeaks · 23/12/2011 23:46

As a fellow Scot I also know a few.

For me it is a bit like Karen. A great 70s name but a bit past it's sell by.

This of course means that in 20 years time it will be mega trendy!
