Imogen or Saskia?

Our baby girl is due in a few months and DH and I are going round and round in circles between the names Saskia and Imogen. I have a little boy called Leo and think they both sound okay with his name.

The middle name will be Ruby Rose after both mine and DH's grandmothers.

So, which do you prefer? Many thanks for any opinions.

There are a pair of twin sisters called Imogen and Saskia in Angela Carter's Wise Children. The names go together beautifully - could you not have both as a first and middle name, or do you want to save one for next time?

Thank you so much for all of your opinions. NotnowImreading, I would use one as a middle name but really would like to call the middle names after mine and my DH's Grans'. I think we have settled on Saskia and I am starting to try and think of the ever growing bump as Saskia. Many thanks again.

Sasha is NOT a boys only name. It is used in Russia and other slavic countries as a nn for either Alexander or Alexandra. Alexander is just a bit more popular than Alexandra, hence you will hear it more in the reference to the boys. I would actually refrain from using it for a boy in an anglo-saxon culture, where it is assumed to be a girls name (on a CV etc where gender is normally derived from a name).

Isn't Saskia is Dutch?

Both Saskia and Imogen are beautiful. But I would not use Imogen now, far too popular and if I chose Sasha I would put Alexandra on the birth cert and use Sasha as a nn.

Sorry op, just seen your decision - beautiful!!

ShesAStar · 15/11/2011 20:44

Thanks bemybebe. Saskia is Dutch which is where my Mother's family is from - only a coincidence though.

not Saskia!!!

I prefer Imogen because I think it is such a cute name for a little girl. However, Saskia is a feistier name and is a bit more grown up than Imogen. Love Sasha too!

Imogen and Saskia are both very nice.

Not keen on Sasha, though.
