Hello, I'm knew to this so please bear with me! My husband and I already have a DS and a DD and are expecting again. It seems most people can't find a name they both love but our problem is the opposite - our list is waaay too long! Please help us to sort out the lovely names from the ones that only seem good in my jumbled pregnancy brain and shorten our list! :o

BOYS
Atticus
Augustus
Bay
Cuthbert
Fergus
Gabe
Gray
Inigo
Merrick
Otto
Percy

GIRLS
Ariana
Astra
Cleo
Elodie
Etta
Lucia
Matilda
Paloma
Rowan
Thea
Zeta

Honest opinions please, I can take it! :o

my mum was friends with an Etta, and she married a man called Salmon!

lollystix · 08/10/2011 23:11

I have a Fergus (but we are in Scotland). It's a bit marmite for some but I find they often come back and say that it's really grown on them and they then think it's cool. We call him 'fergie but I think that's cos he's a baby -he'll probably end up a ferg. Good strong name meaning man if strength. Go for it - I'm not biasedWink

pilates · 09/10/2011 12:09

Ariana, Elodie, Lucia and Matilda are very nice but I'm not keen on your boys names at all.

Only read OP so as not to bias myself:
BOYS
Atticus - Finch, nice, getting more popular now
Augustus - Gus? cute
Bay - American sounding
Cuthbert - spoilt English kid
Fergus - like this one
Gabe -why not Gabriel?
Gray - It's ok, bit dull
Inigo - Montoya
Merrick - Elephant man
Otto - spolit German kid
Percy - Ok

GIRLS
Ariana - Bit wishy washy
Astra - Vauxhall
Cleo - Ok, bit of a cat name
Elodie - I see this a lot on MN but never met a real one, it's pretty.
Etta - Ok
Lucia - Like this one
Matilda - Very nice, doesn't seem to fit with the rest of your choices though
Paloma - Reminds me of horses for some reason, Palomino?
Rowan - like it
Thea -like it
Zeta - Jones

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 09/10/2011 12:41

I like:

Atticus
Fergus (although it's probably quite common ? as in popular, not as in 'I think I'm better than you'!)
Inigo

Astra ? although even nicer IMO is Astrid
Elodie
Etta
Rowan

MrsBranning · 09/10/2011 17:23

Atticus - I love it but it is a wee bit pretentious

I quite like Otto, too. Quirky.

The others are dire. Just awful, sorry

I love your taste in girl's names, however Grin

Etta, Thea, Astra and Cleo are my personal faves.

MamaChoo · 09/10/2011 17:52

I love Percy. It makes me think of the Dukes of Northumberland in a dashing, history-defining way.

pyjamasinbananas · 09/10/2011 17:53

Elodie is absolutely gorgeous!
And I quite like Percy

Fatshionista · 09/10/2011 17:55

Atticus or Gabe if it's short for Gabriel.

Ariana.

MissWilde · 09/10/2011 22:11

Love Bay, 'tis gorgeous! Fergus and Inigo are also lovely.

Matilda and Lucia would be my girls pick.

lurkinginthebackground · 10/10/2011 00:22

Gabe and Ariana are my favourites.

spamm · 10/10/2011 01:20

Love Thea and Atticus.

What about Archie? I know I am not helping by adding, but that seems to sit well with your list.

minipie · 10/10/2011 16:11

Boys: I like Fergus, Gray and Merrick. Also like Rowan as a boy's name.

Cuthbert and Percy are (IMVHO) dreadful.

Girls: I like Cleo, Elodie, Etta, Lucia, Matilda, Thea.

bubblebubblebubblepop · 10/10/2011 17:19

Ariana and Elodie are the only ones I like.

winkle2 · 10/10/2011 17:58

Hate all your boys names - sorry.

Out of your girls names I'd choose arianna.

Elodie and Lycia also nice.

Fifis25StottieCakes · 11/10/2011 11:22

Gabe and Elodie for me Smile

newlywedsongbird · 11/10/2011 21:09

Inigo & Matilda - gorgeous names

NorkyPies · 11/10/2011 21:15

Maybe what the initials would spell out, and possible nicknames, could help you to eliminate some.

funnylittlekaty · 12/10/2011 08:53

Have a friend with a lo called Merrick. They shorten it to Mack if that helps.
Atticus is an ace name. I love love love it. Also love Thea and Cleo from your girls list. It's so exciting choosing names isn't it?!? Grin
