Hello, just joined MN and am looking for some help naming my boys! Ideally we would like similar names but not rhyme-y or match-y, not massively popular but not obscure either. Some we already have in mind are -

Michael - is it popular with the younger generation?
Frank
Sid - don't like Sidney but is it okay on its own?
Stan - as above but don't like Stanley
Dexter
Caleb - nns?
Ned - could it be a name on its own?

What names do people think are nice as twinsets/do you have any other suggestions that could go with the names we have above? We would love the help as their arrival is imminent and we don't want them to be nameless forever!

Congratulations!

Love Sid, Stan and Ned, and Dexter.

I think it would help people remember the names if they didn't start with the same letter.

We have DT boys with 'old man' names (think Albert and George, though those aren't their names) and they go really well together, without being 'matchy)

I've got to say I love all of your names, except maybe Caleb but even then it's not a bad name. I think that Frank and Stan are lovely together, although it maybe sounds a bit too much like Frankenstein (it may just be me who thinks that!). Other suggestions how about Dexter and Stan or Frank and Ned. Congratulations and good luck!

From your list I'd go for Michael Caleb :)

Michael - nice, underused classic
Frank - too "old man"
Sid - only like as nickname for Sidney
Stan - too "old man"
Dexter - too surnamey
Caleb - OK
Ned - don't like on its own

Jacob? Jeremiah?

I saw a Bartholomeus the other day. FAB name.

LadyBoy · 31/08/2011 20:05

If I was to have twin boys now I would call them Jude & Finn.

first1 · 31/08/2011 20:13

My imaginary twin boys are Callum and Alex Grin

But other suggestions for you are Noah, Joel, Dylan, Finn, Zachary

pamplemousserose · 31/08/2011 20:17

Luke and Zach?

HeidiKat · 31/08/2011 21:48

Personally I wouldn't use Ned as it's the word used for the Scottish equivalent of a chav. Stands for Non Educated Delinquent.

plainwhitet · 31/08/2011 22:13

it is a good idea to make sure the bigger/older one has the name starting with the later name in the alphabet. too often twins are always known by their names in the same order (i'm sure everyone can think of twins they know) and it can be better for their psychological welfare if one twin is not always first in the register at school/people's minds, etc.

Hedwig3 · 01/09/2011 09:12

Michael and Dexter sound really nice together without being at all matchy.

Kayano · 01/09/2011 10:55

I like dexter and caleb x

My imaginary twin boys are Lucas and Jenson

bunintheoven1 · 01/09/2011 21:59

Stan and Dexter are gorgeous together!

BuntyPenfold · 02/09/2011 10:50

I do like Frank but so many girls are called Frankie now. What with Billie and Sammie and Charlie there are fewer and fewer names for boys.
I like Michael and Edward together.

argylesocks · 02/09/2011 19:05

I vote Michael and Caleb or Michael and Dexter. Sid and Stan aren't very nice, to me. They're also just nicknames.

autumngirl231 · 02/09/2011 22:43

Good point about the names not starting with the same letter, I'm sure that would cause constant confusion! Also, we are struggling with middle names so any suggestions would be great! As the first names are quite traditional we like the idea of a modern middle name but cannot agree on any.

I know twin boys names Jonas and Silas which is sweet.

If it were me, with no DH input, I would have

Hector James and Rory Heath.

naughtaless · 03/09/2011 14:49

I like Ned and Caleb.
If I were to have twin boys I would name them Len and Vinny

qwerty123 · 03/09/2011 15:06

Oscar and Dexter

qwerty123 · 03/09/2011 15:09

Dexter and Reuben

qwerty123 · 03/09/2011 15:10

Stan and Barney

qwerty123 · 03/09/2011 15:12

George and Sid

qwerty123 · 03/09/2011 15:14

Michael and Edward

PorkChopSter · 03/09/2011 15:22

My imaginary twin boys are Reuben and Isaac. Or Samuel and Isaac.

From your list, if I had to, I'd go Francis and Edward.
