Help. DH wants to call DS Boris

It started as a cute, joke name for the bump / unborn baby which is great. But it has really stuck and DH wants to call him Boris when he is born.

Its wrong isn't it?

Because Milo sounds nice and Boris doesn't .......clearly

SaffronCake · 13/08/2011 03:55

Boris will always be that buffoon to me too sorry, but it does have a kind of a ring to it. Time for a new puppy/rabbit/kitten?

nooka · 13/08/2011 04:23

I have a cousin Boris so I think it's a perfectly respectable name :) I think right now it would be difficult not to associate it with Boris Johnson though.

Deesus · 13/08/2011 06:05

For some unknown reason my DH has named his bum 'Boris'.

Yes, really & no, I don't know why he felt the urge to name it....I mean I know a lot of men name other bits but his bum....? Confused

catgirl1976 · 13/08/2011 06:06

I can think of Boris Johnson, Boris Becker and Boris Karloff. None of which are particular role models :) I like Milo. I shall wear him down :)

The poor little mite can't be named after Deesus' DH's bottom!

Deesus · 13/08/2011 06:14

Milo is a great name! I'd go for it!

Although if your DH wears you down please be comforted that it is a very nice peachy bottom! Grin

ZZZenAgain · 13/08/2011 06:16

There are plenty of names I prefer to Boris. Tell him Boris is definitely going to be his middle name but now you have to start thinking seriously about a first name

catgirl1976 · 13/08/2011 06:18

The peachiness of the bottom is some comfort :)

Great idea on conceding as a middle name zzzen - I think that might be the compromise!

Milo is just a chocolate drink to me. Prefer Boris but agree blond buffoonery is inevitable association. Like Lucas.

NorksAreMessy · 13/08/2011 06:59

I was nicknamed Boris at school after 'Boris the Spider' so I am really quite fond of the name, quite quirky and strong. Good for little dogs, spiders and teenage hippie girls

But no way would I give it to a BABY.

TillyIpswitch · 13/08/2011 07:07

I adore Rafe. Just love it. It's an old English stand-alone name as well, if that carries any weight. Also love Hugo.

And yes, Milo is a chocolate drink where I come from. Might as well call him Horlicks. :)

twooter · 13/08/2011 07:10

Potential nickname maybe?

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 13/08/2011 07:27

Ha Boris and Milo were both on my shortlist.

Ds would have suited Boris soooooo much, very vetoed by dp though on account of our surnameGrin

If dd has been a boy she may well have been Milo or maybe Gabriel.

MissBeehiving · 13/08/2011 07:35

I had a lovely guinea pig called Boris

Sophiesmummie · 13/08/2011 12:23

Boris is a nice name imo, I know a very nice German one. I don't see what is 'odd' about it Hmm.

Milo, on the other hand, is this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milo_(drink). To me that would be a very odd name choice.

The other problem with Milo is that in many languages it will be pronounced Mee-lo, whereas Boris is Boris in most languages.

thederkinsdame · 13/08/2011 23:03

I know a little boy called Boris. Really suits him, but I was a bit Confused when I first heard it.

ShoutyHamster · 14/08/2011 00:29

Yes, definitely spot on for a guinea pig. A baby... not so much.

mathanxiety · 14/08/2011 06:48

You forgot this Boris, Catgirl.

I actually think Boris is a fine name.

catgirl1976 · 14/08/2011 10:39

Oh dear - of course - another fine Boris example math :)

I have visions of him being born wearing a cossack hat and clutching a bottle of vodka.

DS2's nicknamed Boris as he has floppy blond hair like Boris Johnson, I have had a few funny looks though OP when Im calling Boris.

catgirl1976 · 14/08/2011 11:39

I think I am oging to have to insist on middle name or nick name ONLY as a compromise.

Just a shame we can't agree on any name at all.

I am REALLY hoping when he is born we look at him and go "Oh - of COURSE - he looks like a ". Ideally he would pop out with a name tag on :)

OP posts:
MissHonkover · 14/08/2011 19:21

Beware that hormones might make you think he actually does look like a Boris...

catgirl1976 · 14/08/2011 19:23

:) I may write it into my birth plan that midwives are to knock me out if I do

MissBetsyTrotwood · 14/08/2011 19:27

Print out loads of pictures of Boris Johnson (or Becker's) face and stick them everywhere. Got any scan pics? Stick one on there too. That'll see it off.

catgirl1976 · 14/08/2011 19:36

:) bri;liant idea!
