EllenJaneisnotmyname · 28/07/2011 18:19

Oh yes, I know a woman in her fifties called Angel.

BalloonSlayer · 28/07/2011 18:21

Brook(e) is a girl's name.

ScrambledSmegs · 28/07/2011 18:25

I know an Eden. She is one of the most beautiful people I know, on the inside as well as outside. Therefore I'm deeply biased and think it's a gorgeous name.

I thought you'd mis-typed Barley until I googled it. Nice meaning - fern wood - but will probably forever be associated with baby biscuits. You may tire of saying 'yes, like the rusks' to everyone after a while.

ShowOfHands · 28/07/2011 18:28

Ocean and Oisin are nothing to do with each other.

It's like saying have you ever met a Seashore and somebody replying 'no but I did meet a Saoirse once'.

One's a name, the other's a noun that people might use as a name if they're that way inclined.

ScrambledSmegs · 28/07/2011 18:29

Ah, just noticed it's for a boy. Sorry.

TheHumanCatapult · 28/07/2011 18:40

I know a Eden little blighter but name suits him

and and ds3 is not a oisin but does have another irish name that gets spelt the english way

EdithWeston · 28/07/2011 18:40

No.

Eden is traditionally a girl's name, and right now River is female too (Doctor Who). Sky/e and Brook/e are female to me too.

I think Angel is a brilliant name.

Bracken and Ocean don't do anything for me, and I'm afraid the first association I made to Farley was "Charley Farley, the phantom raspberry blower of old London town".

Awomancalledhorse · 28/07/2011 18:49

I know a 3yr old girl called Eden.
I think the best (and least likely to bump into a girl with the same name) is River.

Bracken is awful, it's so harsh sounding!

BuntyPenfold · 28/07/2011 18:52

I know a girl called Eden, and a girl with Skye as a second name.
I know a boy called Reef - he is a free spirit Wink

RosieBP · 28/07/2011 19:02

There are about 3 Angels (children, and their dispositions are not angelic!) where I work, and I also know of a River (brothers Leaf and Rock) and an Ocean.

Bugmum · 28/07/2011 19:13

My second novel has a character (male) called Angel. But it's a shortening for Angelo.

HoneyPablo · 28/07/2011 19:22

I know a 14 year old boy Eden. I really like it.
I have never met any boys with the other names on the list. I do know 2 girls called Brooke and a girl called Skye.

BuntyPenfold · 28/07/2011 19:28

Brooke Shields was such a beautiful girl, I can't associate the name with a boy.
I know a man called Eden, who must be 45 or so.

CaptainNancy · 28/07/2011 19:32

I know girls with all those names except Farley. DOn't know any farleys.

thefirstmrsrochester · 28/07/2011 19:33

I know of an Ocean - pronounced Oh-See-Ann, my ds went to nursery with an Eden.

vintageteacups · 28/07/2011 19:33

Eden, Sky, Angel and Brook, to me, are more feminine than masculaine and I had a friend at school called Brooke.

I think River is probably the nicest from your list for a boy.

PirateDinosaur · 28/07/2011 19:40

DS has a (male) River in his class at school.

BalloonSlayer · 28/07/2011 19:47

Eden is supposed to be a boy's name, I think it's a variant of Edan (Aidan). DH wanted it for one of the DSes but I vetoed it as I think it's mainly used as a girl's name these days. Shame.

BuntyPenfold · 28/07/2011 19:55

There was a whole series of books with a male Eden. I think they were called WhiteOak Chronicles, or something like that.
A sort of Edwardian Dallas saga, and Eden was Bobby Ewing's equivalent.

Solo · 28/07/2011 20:07

Are you pg NappyAddict?

BertieBasset · 28/07/2011 20:11

I know a male Eden, aged 17

TheMonster · 28/07/2011 20:12

No and they all sound like they should be (very bad) girls names.

PebblesAndWine · 28/07/2011 20:20

I know a Bracken. She's one to avoid. I therefore can't stand that name.

River can be either I think, but all the others sound like girls names.

Isn't Skylar a boys name? I've always quite liked it.......

lenak · 28/07/2011 20:26

I know a male Eden.

To me Sky, Brook(e) and Bracken are girls names.

River is unisex, but I think more of a girls name - particularly at the moment with doctor who. I know Angel can be unisex, but again, I always think of it as a girls name - or that of a very gorgeous vampire Smile

Jellykat · 28/07/2011 20:38

I know a Brooke (girl), and a 21 yr old called Farley. He has the most brilliant surname - wish i could tell you what it is. Plus he's Sooooo good looking (half persian y'see).

Oh to be 20 years younger.. >
