My 7 yo has a Maelie in his class. Think it's a pretty name, though lots of people will link it's inspired by Miley Cyrus.

Ivortheengine8 · 21/07/2011 19:59

I have a friend who has a little girl called miley (I'm not sure how she spells it) and I have to be honest I dont like it.

CoteDAzur · 22/07/2011 07:40

Oh, grow up. It is awful. You asked what people think.

Pancakeflipper · 22/07/2011 07:46

Smiley Miley. If you have a kid with permanent grills it's not going to fit.

I think it's trying too hard to different and ending up with a nickname.

Oh blimey joys of an iTouch and the morning after the mums night out. Sorry for double post and clueless to 'grills'. Predictive text. Grrr

Pancakeflipper · 22/07/2011 07:51

Oh I have now just read page 2 and realised we are only to voice opinions if positive. Sorry OP - I misunderstood your initial post. I thought you wanted to know what we thought.

pilates · 22/07/2011 08:08

Chelseaannejolley, if you ask a question on here expect to receive an honest answer. I'm guessing from your text speak you are quite young, its nothing personal, honest. Smile

GwendolineMaryLacey · 22/07/2011 08:14

Pancake, weren't you paying attention? On this particular thread it has to go;

OP - do you like this name?
Posters - Ooh it's adorable, I'm going to change DD's name this instant/Ooh it's adorable but too many mm's so not for me, but so lovely I'd be thrilled if you used it.

Please try harder next time Wink

MelinaM · 22/07/2011 08:17

My friends younger brother named his DD Miley, it has not been well received!

I'd steer well clear, it's not even a 'proper name'.

BalloonSlayer · 22/07/2011 08:30

Miley Cyrus changed her name from Destiny to Miley because she preferred it. [Disclaimer: DD told me that]

I often think of "Smiley Miley's Mileage Game" from the Radio 1 Roadshow but that is just me showing my age, and actually I think Miley is a lovely name.

WiiUnfit · 22/07/2011 22:50

Hmm So you ask what people think, assuming you want to know what people in real life will think, then you go all stroppy? Wow, maybe you are 13? Grin

I'm not helping am I? Grin

jellybeans · 22/07/2011 22:52

It's OK. How about Myla?

Hulababy · 22/07/2011 23:06

BallponSlayer - she did but it wasn't a real name that she decided to just use. It was her nickname given to her by her parents "smiley miley"

scottishmummy · 23/07/2011 19:09

if you get that level derision on mn,imagine rl
dont saddle a kid with silly name

WiiUnfit · 24/07/2011 09:39

yy scottishmummy, exactly what I was thinking. Although, in RL, people may be a bit more conserved "Oh, that's... um... nice?"

BalloonSlayer · 24/07/2011 19:48

"if you get that level derision on mn,imagine rl"

uummm not sure about that, actually

There are threads on here, with names that would have the immortal piss taken out of them by everyone I know IRL - "We're thinking Poncetastica for a girl and Testiculous for a boy, what do you think?" which get almost 100% replies of "ooh lovely." I don't post. I live in a "leafy" part of the home counties, btw.

I really don't think Mumsnet is representative of real life where names are concerned. I have never met any children with 80% of the names I see on the Baby Names threads. Which, to be fair, includes Miley, of course.

I feel sorry for young women in their 20s called Kylie - they can never lie about who they were named after. Even worse - Charlene. I put Miley in the same category.

SmileyMileyMooMoo · 18/07/2013 17:07

Its a beautiful name:)

Ra88 · 18/07/2013 17:10

it's nice ! very Girlie

sleepingbeautiful · 18/07/2013 17:51

I actually know a grown up one but hers is spelled Mylie.

RoadToTuapeka · 18/07/2013 17:57

My first reaction was 'ugh' but suggestion above of using it as nickname for Emily etc sounds ok!
