Cryda

Pronounced Cree-dah.

It's Celtic Irish /Cornish, Cryda was a saint who established churches, it means purity or strength.

Both DH and I were suprised to like it-it's a very rare thing for us to agree but were both in a bit of two minds about it, we both went oooh, when we saw it and then hmmm. So now it's on the "to think over" list

Well, the sound of it is ok, but you will spend your whole lives saying 'no, it's not CRY-da, it's Cree-da'

Weird, it made me go ooh then hmm too....

I like the sound, but isn't Creda a make of washing machine?

Thing is I think it's a nice little girls name, but also a very strong sounding grown womans name. I imagine her to be an indian linen & birkenstocks wearing earthy no nonense type with long salt and pepper plaited hair. I like that sort of woman.

I wouldn't worry though - hasn't done Candy Stratton or Mila (Miele) Kunis any harm having a name sounding similar to a domestic appliance manufacturer!!

Although I suppose people might wonder if she was conceived on top of a washing machine!!!

Where do you live? One of my brothers called his daughter a common Cornish name which is where he and his (now) wife moved 10-15 years ago. Never heard of it so had a 'moment' when sending a congrats card. Spoke to my mum and father and one of my other brothers. We'd all heard it as something slightly different. Had to ask on her for clarification / confirmation on what it was. Do love it though.

Just checked my book and there are lots of alternative spellings - maybe a different one would minimise the cry/cree confusion (and the white goods association)?

I'm cornish, husband is scottish-we dont live in either place anymore, being somewhere midway between. The agreement was that our PFB has a scottish name (Isla) and this one is to have a cornish name. We have it totally pegged if it's a boy, but girls name is proving more difficult.

Cattleprod was thinking of spelling it Creeda/Creedah. It's more commonly seen as a place name in Cornwall with the "Creed" spelling

How about Columba? She was an early Cornish saint.
