Cryda

Pronounced Cree-dah.

It's Celtic Irish /Cornish, Cryda was a saint who established churches, it means purity or strength.

Both DH and I were suprised to like it-it's a very rare thing for us to agree but were both in a bit of two minds about it, we both went oooh, when we saw it and then hmmm. So now it's on the "to think over" list

Lowenna

Tamsin

Jowdy known as Jojo

Ailla ( Isla)

Jenna, Jana

These are just a few Cornish names I know from Inter-celtic festivals I go to.

Kerensa? Do you mind telling us your boy name? I love the name Lowen but DH won't have it :(

mumzy · 15/07/2011 19:17

Miele is nice

ImpyCelyn · 15/07/2011 19:20

I love Loveday - not popular on here though.

I know a Cornish Merlyn (female).

alliwant · 15/07/2011 19:47

lalabaloo my son is called Lowen, we thought we were the only ones to discover it. We have had nothing but compliments about it Grin

Other Cornish boys names are Cadan(ds2 middle name), Carlin (means little Chief I think), Trystan, Denzel, Derek, Piran, Jago, Jory. Thats all I can think of for now.

Girls names: Lowenna, Jenna, Cara, Karenza, Veryan or Demelza?

libelulle · 15/07/2011 19:50

I love kerensa!

fishandlilacs · 15/07/2011 21:00

lalabaloo I'll PM you boys name if youre genuinely interested

I really didn't want to say it on here because I dont want anyone putting me off it and sheer weight of numbers means theres bound to be someone who doesn't like it.

alliwant it's a lovely name isn't it!

fishandlilacs That's a fair point, I am genuinely interested (I love baby name discussions!) and I promise I won't say anything mean about it. I really like Cornish sounding names, and Scottish. But i'm always worried that people will think i'm trying too hard to be different because neither of us have a connection with those places. Anyway, i'm still only TTC so I have plenty of time to ponder

notlettingthefearshow · 17/07/2011 22:38

Lovely name. I'd never heard of the brand, but maybe I don't spend enough time shopping for white goods.

I wouldn't worry about such a tenuous connatation. If you want a name that no one has any preconception about, you may have a long hunt!

PamBeesly · 18/07/2011 18:44

I've never heard of it OP and while I think an unusual name with meaning is lovely it reminds me of the brand...Ciara is nicer I think, good luck :)

Fifis25StottieCakes · 18/07/2011 19:23

I have a Niamh and she will definatelt spend a lifetime being called Cry-de. Niamhs constantly called Ni-am

pixiestix · 18/07/2011 22:27

[waves to Fish from across the Tamar]

I'm not mad keen on it, sorry. Have a look at Pol Hodge's book on Cornish names for loads of lovely ideas - and some really, really bad ones.

Off the top of my head, female Cornish saints - Wenna, Pia, Endellion, Senara, Ia (pron. Ee-a), Morwenna

Trumpton if you know a Jowdy/ Jo-jo then we have to have a mutual friend! Shock There can't be many of those about!

mathanxiety · 18/07/2011 22:56

Would you consider an Irish name?

Croí (pr. Cree) means heart.

FingandJeffing · 19/07/2011 00:00

Merryn is lovely, sweet and strong. Not keen on washing machine name tbh.

rainbowtoenails · 19/07/2011 00:13

I like kerenza.

TillyIpswitch · 19/07/2011 01:06

DD has a well p-known but not commonly-used name which has three very accepted pronunciations. You do have to be cool with the fact that people will get it 'wrong', or else it'd drive you nuts!

birdofthenorth · 19/07/2011 12:31

Better as a nn for Cressida?
