Hey,

After much discussion, we think we've decided on Henry Xavier Holmes for a boy.

We're really struggling for a girls name as DH doesn't really like any.

Please give your honest opinions on our shortlist. Possible teasings/problems and your general thoughts:

Melody Charlotte Holmes
Delia Madeleine Holmes
Sylvia Madeleine Holmes

Thanks

CarolineLou · 10/07/2011 00:34

Sorry, Im rubbish at advice. Sylvia seems a tad old to me but thats MY opinion. They are still gorgeous x

love Sylvia but i don't like Madeleine (just one of those names that dont work for me, probably knew an annoying one at school)

i really like Delia too. Melody not so keen but Charlotte is great.

JessKM · 10/07/2011 00:50

yeh I think Madeleine will be forever associated with poor Madeleine Mccann in a lot of peoples heads, theyre all pretty choices though. PERSONALLY I would go with Sylvia Melody¬!!

PaperBank · 10/07/2011 09:02

Melody Charlotte (or Sylvia Charlotte).

CandiceMariePratt · 10/07/2011 09:15

Love Delia

kreecherlivesupstairs · 10/07/2011 09:25

The only ones I do like are Madeleine and Charlotte.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 10/07/2011 09:53

If your last name is Holmes I would ask MNHQ to delete this thread Choco as you've just outed yourself.

Anyway, for me its Delia or Sylvia. Melody is just awful.

Collision · 10/07/2011 10:06

This is DH's opinion Grin

Melody - predictable and boring [bit chavvy too]

Delia - Smith

Sylvia - granny-ish

Sorry.

I think if you want my honest opinion that Madeleine Charlotte is far prettier than the others.

MsChanandlerBong · 10/07/2011 13:31

Another subjective opinion... but I love Melody Charlotte!
IME it is unusual and pretty - goes to show that we all have different opinions!

OP which option is your favourite, and which one is DH's favourite? Perhaps you can then blend those two and both be happy(ish)!!

cece · 10/07/2011 13:38

I like Sylvia Charlotte best.

proudfoot · 10/07/2011 17:23

Henry is great but none of the girls first names appeal to me at all tbh, sorry. Charlotte is much nicer.

pilates · 10/07/2011 21:25

Madeleine and Charlotte are lovely

pilates · 10/07/2011 21:26

sorry hadn't finished but do not like the others.

I like Madeleine Charlotte too

Think Melody Charlotte is nice but don't like Melody on its own much and she won't be referred to with both names together I'm guessing.

Chocolocolate · 11/07/2011 10:59

Wow,

What a mix of opinions.

My favorite is Delia Madeleine and DH's favorite, although he's not keen on ANY girls names, is Melody Charlotte.

Thinking about it last night, my list would be completely different if I discounted popularity. If I did, my list would be:

Amelia
Isabelle
Madeleine

but I can't get past worrying that she would be Amelia/Isabelle/Madeleine H for all of her school days.

I actually prefer Madeleine Charlotte, but that might be a mouthful.

:)

LauLauLemon · 11/07/2011 15:59

Melody Charlotte.

MugglesandLuna · 11/07/2011 15:59

I like Melody.
Not Delia (unless you live in Norwich/are Norwich City fans)

Ephiny · 11/07/2011 16:00

I like Melody Charlotte best by a long way, I think Melody is a lovely name, and the two sound just right together. Madeleine Charlotte is OK too. Don't know any Melody's or Madeleine's in real life.

Not keen on Delia or Sylvia, they sound a bit dated and middle-aged to me.
